I’ve got a lot of the Godzilla franchise. It’s a silly franchise, made even sillier by the fact that for several decades, most of the carnage was performed by one chap in a rubber monster costume. But as outlandish as Godzilla was, his enemies may have been stranger. And you’ll be facing plenty of them in them in the upcoming Bandai Namco game later this year.
Here’s the latest trailer for the game, which shows off the rogues gallery. But to make things a tad bit more interesting, I’ve dropped a list of monsters below from the video, with their descriptions lovingly thieved from their respective wikis. Plus, there’s at least one South Park reference hidden below. GO FIND IT!
Mecha Godzilla
The Showa MechaGodzilla (Mekagojira) is an alien mecha created by Toho Studios that first appeared in the 1974 Godzillafilm, Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla.
Mecha Godzilla 2
MechaGodzilla was created by the United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center, also known as G-Force, using Futurian technology scavenged from the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah. In Godzilla Island, it was created by G-Guard.
Destroyah
Destoroyah originated as a colony of Precambrian crustaceans that had been awakened and mutated when the Oxygen Destroyer was detonated to kill the original Godzilla in 1954.
Mothra
Robert James Smith (born 21 April 1959) is an English musician. He is the lead singer, guitarist, lyricist and principal songwriter of the rock band The Cure, and its only constant member since its formation in 1976. NY Rock describes him as “pop culture’s unkempt poster child of doom and gloom,” and asserts that some of his songs are a “somber introspection over lush, brooding guitars.
King Ghidora
Initially, King Ghidorah was said to have come from outer space, an ancient evil responsible for destroying civilizations on many planets, including Venus, as well as the planets themselves. Arriving on Earth in a magnetic meteorite, King Ghidorah devastated much of the Japanese countryside before being repelled by the monstrous trio, Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra.
Mecha King Ghidora
He has a futuristic and mechanical look, with his middle head mechanized as well as his wings, torso and a few other areas. He’s considerably more powerful than the purely organic King Ghidorah.
Space Godzilla
SpaceGodzilla is considered to be one of Godzilla’s most powerful foes. He is able to match and dispatch the King of the Monsters, anytime and anywhere the two may meet. Especially with the support of the energy channeling into his two shoulder crystals to maximize his power.
The Godzilla game is out later this year. The western release includes all of the Japanese PS3 and PS4 content, bundled onto one disc, including a nifty noirish filter mode. What it doesn’t include, are lessons on how to roar like Godzilla. But have no fear, because I’m an expert in that. I’ll teach ya!
