As revealed in the Japanese press conference, Sony’s will soon be releasing a brand new, cheaper version of the PlayStation Vita.

Thinner and lighter, the new system will be available in six different colours, and will pack 1Gb of on-board memory. It’ll also have a better battery, giving gamers an extra hour of uptime.

In the same conference, Sony confirmed that there will also be a 64Gb memory card available for the Vita coming soon – which will likely be a boon to PlayStation Plus members; I know my Vita memory card is packed, and I continually have to delete games o put new ones on. It’s being released in Japan on October 10. We’ll try put best to find out if it’ll be available locally any time soon.

What do you think? Would you buy a slimmer, lighter and cheaper Vita? Is this what the Vita needs to regain a bit of relevance?

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
