This is Playstation 4's User Interface

PlayStation Plus may be the best online experience because of the incredible range of free games that it brings you –  but if we’re honest the entire XMB interface really isn’t the best with regards to usability;  and the graphical side of things leaves a lot to be desired. However that is all changing with the PlayStation 4

We’ve already heard that we are going to be treated to all new profile pages, interactions and a shop – but now we also know what it’s all going to look like and I have to admit it looks sexy.

What is also obvious is that Sony are putting a lot of effort into ensuring the mobile versions of the online experience are just as good as the real deal. What do you think? Sexyo r a little too similar to Windows 8 for your liking?

Why though? I mean why do you hate windows8 so much? A couple other people told me as well, but no one really told me there reasons why. I think its not that bad in my opinion.

Terrible user interface when you do not have a touch screen.
Complete disconnect between metro apps and desktop apps.
Far more effort to navigate using just a mouse when compared to Win7.

What’s so bad about Win 8? So far I’ve had minimal problems with it. And it feels faster than Win 7.

Oh great, expect millions more videos of “Lord Swag YOLO live streaming Killzone 4” on Youtube after the PS4 is launched.

A dark blue background? Cus that doesn’t give you eye strain that leads to headaches? Sorry, xbox wins hands down over this, even with all their shitty ads.

Yes, because Sony has never…ever…allowed custom tweaks to the UI, such as background color 😉

For just straight up screen shots, I’ve no problem reading any of it honestly. Maybe if I were doing so for hours on end it might become an issue. But, the white lettering seems to contrast just fine against the blue background. At least from my perspective. Other’s may disagree, but at first glance I could easily read and locate everything on the screen shots.

this is when having OVG around to explain the tech is useful:) he’s a dtp designer and artist by trade. I just know tjat there is a reason we have black writing on white/light backgrounds and not white on black/dark backgrounds. Something to do with the number of cones vs rods in the eye that causes eye strain. Hence my saying this would give you a headache.

OVG explaining human physiology to me, isn’t going to change my initial reaction to the screen shots they’re using to show the new interface lol. I save my nitpickery to things that I _know_ they won’t let you change. I mean, if it was a blinding light, and I couldn’t see anything, then there’s a problem. But, this was simply a viewing of what to expect. And as with the PS3 UI, they give you a good deal of customization options. So, as long as I have no problem reading the lettering, and the layout is better than the XMB, I’m ok with it. It gives you an idea of their direction. =)

I mentioned OVG as I was trying to explain my initial response, one that is based on a scientific idea that having dark backgrounds isn’t good for your eyes 🙂 The kindle isn’t Black with white writing for a reason 😉 Nor was FF (any) ‘s back ground ever a dark blue, always a light 🙂 But as you say, this is negligible as you are able to customize.

Nah, it’s ok, I understood where you were going, I was just simply saying that I didn’t focus on the background color…you know? My focus was on how it compares to the XMB with regards to layout…that’s all =)

Have to be honest, initial glance at that first image made me thing it was a classic Final Fantasy game, or at least a theme that heavily recreated it.

Chewing razor blades is less painful than navigating the current XBMC crap. It is technically impossible for Sony to cock this up as the current stuff is archaic.

I like the layout a lot, hate the blue. Go home blue, you’re ugly. But I’m sure you can change that, so all for it as of now.

Yeah, not really sure why there’s this current love for squares… I like curves, circles, shucks through in an octagon or even a triangle… but squares? Who likes squares? OCD folk and autistic kids that’s who…

Probably because Apple patneded rounded corners in fekking application windows also. How the US Patent Office allowed that bull$hit to go through for cellphones is beyond me. Oh that’s right, the US Patent Office and Patent Law are archaic hunks of crap designed to feck everyone over.
