Uncharted 3's villain gets a video

Yesterday’s ION post had a link to a reveal of Drake’s new antagonist in Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. If you’d hit that link you would have been introduced to Katherine Marlowe, the Helen Mirren lookalike with a spiky umbrella.

More details on Marlowe have emerged via the PlayStation Blog, including a new cutscene video of the first encounter between Drake, Sullivan and their new foe – although just how “new” she is is up for debate. The video exudes Naughty Dog’s attention to detail, and gives a hint as to why this rivalry exists between the two parties: it all has to do with the ring Drake wears around his neck.

Marlowe is the leader of a secret society that dates back to the time of Queen Elizabeth I, which for those of you who slept during history classes, was mid-16th century to 17th century. Sir Francis Drake was knighted by Queen Elizabeth I so there will likely be more of the Uncharted 3 story based off this period in history.

Marlowe wants Sir Francis Drake’s ring for some reason, and she is convinced it is rightfully hers. The ring, which has been in Drake’s possession for the last two games, will likely be the artefact that sets this next adventure in motion.

There is clearly history between Marlowe, Drake and Sullivan, but we’ll probably have to wait until November before we find out what that history is.
