Evo2010

This year’s EVO – A gaming tournament dedicated to PVP Beat ‘em ups – took place this weekend at Caeser’s Palace in Las Vegas. A host of fighting games were played – but the one that generally captures the public hearts, as usual, is Street Fighter IV.

The competition was marred a little by the U-Stream broadcast going dead – meaning many people were unable to watch the results of the final match between EG Ricky Ortiz and last year’s winner  Daigo “ the Beast” Umehara. Who won? The results may surprise you.

[Update] Video has been replaced by a direct feed. Thanks Nick!

Ok no..they wont. Of course Daigo won…again. Daigo – playing as Ryu – bested Ortiz’ Rufus by a 3-1 in a nail-biting match-up. Coming in third, fourth and fifth were players Inflitration, Mike Ross and “Vangief”. Vangief is noteworthy for beating Daigo’s arch-rival Justin Wong – using a gamepad. Who says you need a stick for high level play, eh?

Here’s a direct feed of the final match-up between Daigo and Ortiz – and you can see why Daigo keeps winning. He’s just able to adapt to others’ style of play so quickly. High level play like this makes me feel a little dead inside – secure in the knowledge that I just plain suck.

EVO 2010 was just incredible to watch but my jaw nearly hit the ground when the stream died during the final round this morning, though. I wish more people would watch these things, they are so awesome.

IM AM SOOOO DEPRESSED. I cant express how angry I am. I was up all night (til 6am in Scotland) watching this event and the site kept crashing. At first I thought it was my computer, but then realised it was Ustream, I cant believe they let everyone down, how dare they! Not only did the stream cut during the crucial finals, but also during other intense SSF4 matches. Im still raging about this, so unfair. EVO 2010 was utter failure, they should have prepared for high volumes of viewers, no excuse. They advertised it greatly but cant keep up the quality of the stream, pathetic. I totally feel you, I was the same last night, when the site cut off, I was going mad, I was on the verge of tears. WE ARE OWED AN APOLOGY YOU *****!
