Critical Hit, as you know, has been going through a transition stage. With many of the regular writers moving on to pastures new, we are looking for regular volunteer gaming writers and columnists, who love gaming, and want to write for CriticalHit on a regular basis about the latest gaming news.

We want CriticalHit to be a place for people to have opinions and views about the gaming industry – and this extends to our writers aswell. Don’t like a game? Write about it!

If you feel like you want to contribute to our platform about your gaming passion, review the latest games, and fire off some steam, send us an email, and we’d love to hear from you!

Sadly, my review days are long behind me, but I would love to see you guys (the new CriticalHit) focus on gaming, rather than trying to cover a whole range of different topics. The old saying of less is more, is very applicable here.

Another, suggestion… lift the ban on a number of accounts in the ban lists – a large number of those banned were the bread and butter of this website. They were banned purely for disagreeing with the management at the time. You’re talking regulars of this website. Individuals who were loyal for nearly a decade (from when this website was called Lazygamer).

Show some goodwill to the old guard, and you’ll have an instant community. Sure, you’ll have the odd grump here and there, but that comes with all online communities. Not everyone likes change, but if you listen to them, genuinely acknowledge their concerns (and I don’t mean “bend the knee” at every whim), but make an actual effort to compromise and cultivate the community, it’ll grow.

Obviously, there are legitimate trolls out there, dodgy Russian bot accounts, but you also had great and funny posters, like MonsterCheddar who added levity to the comment section. You had other funny guys like Stoompot, and I think Insomnia now (or something), and even my own old account, Mandalorian Jim.

    Mend the community, Kevin!

Bring us all together again. You have no idea how many of us, actually want to see you succeed – especially after what the previous guys did.

I don’t think Kaas is banned… draws summoning circle

By the old magic of the rabbit overlords, I summon thee @monstercheddar:disqus

Sadly, Yozzie, Gavin personally banned the Kaas (a few months ago). I wish I had the inclination to search for the exact exchange, but it was during one of Mr Mannion’s frequent power trips. All, I really remember was that there was a funny meme, which ended in a political debate, which then escalated as per usual, because Gavin would bait you, and if you had the upper hand, he’d either huff and puff, “call you toxic”, delete comments, edit his own comments to make them seem less idiotic, or in this case, outright ban you. The ban on Cheddar was one of the defining moments when quite a few regulars just left the site. The first being, how Erwin was treated.

So, much for “Don’t be a Jerk”. Clearly, rules for thee, but not for me….

Jip – that was the time I left as well. And Gavin really baited Kasie just before he got banned

Not even a magic circle using the old magic of the rabbit overlords can penetrate the blocklist or banlist and summon @MonsterChedd4r 😛

If I’m not mistaken the Bannening happened when the US elections were happening and you had republicans pissing off the modded democrats, and then there was also the Gina Carano balls up.

I missed out on the Gina saga and didn’t comment on it, but I found it really interesting that the people who were defending James Gunn were all of a sudden extremely offended. Either you support the right of people to say something, or you don’t. That’s one thing that really annoys me, it’s inconsistency and hypocrisy – it shouldn’t matter if it’s an ideological opponent, if you’re a free speech advocate, you can’t just be one on the right or the left. And, if you call for censorship, it shouldn’t just be one side that should be censored, that is fascist thinking.

I hope they can get some new blood on here. I came on relatively late (although it was still LazyGamer days) and was surprised at how awesome this community was. Felt that my brand of humour (which could be seen as trolling sometimes, I admit) was generally accepted and we all had fun.

I’m still on the site on a daily basis, but it’s sad not seeing those community interactions anymore. Not a very social person, but I did enjoy the interactions with some of the more colorful characters on here (and the occasional dissing of old Kasie XD).

I agree with you that there are lots of us who still want to be here. I hope they can do something to rebuild the community cause at the moment there is very little incentive to comment and interact if no one else is doing the same. I tend to feel like an idiot if I’m the only one who comments on a story.

Absolutely, I’m actually excited. I think the community can be salvaged, and we can move forwards. The last 6 years can be just a cautionary tale of what can happen when hubris runs wild (and the dangers of ego and how easily tyrants are created – especially from people you wouldn’t expect; I still can’t believe it was Darryn who banned me, and the reason he gave, nor can I believe his overreaction when I returned to the site after a year).

And, to be honest MaSeKind, I always liked your sense of humour, it’s very similar to mine, with playful banter, a love for words or a play of words – but I can see how that fell out of favour (especially when skins became extremely thin).

That would be something, wouldn’t it? But, it would also mean a certain banlist getting the axe. A lot of old commentators were banned purely for wrong-think. It’s actually amazing to think how many of the old gang ended up banned, or those who were smart, just giving up on the site and moving elsewhere.

I think I was the last long time commenter still commenting on articles. As for the wrong think banning, i noticed this site was becoming another, Polygon and Kokatu but suddenly it stopped. Hopefully like i said it can get back on entertainment and leave the sjw crap out of it

Oh wow – just asked on another forum on clarity where the site will be heading – like you were reading my mind. 🙂 Glad to see you will still be a site focus on gaming. For a moment i thought this site was turning into myBroadband with the new tech articles. 🙂

I’m actually hopeful; it’ll rise from the ashes. I’m officially giving Kevin my support, and I definitely hope he steers us back to a healthy community that can laugh, debate, joke, fight, but not take things personally… and crucially not have to fear the insecurities and wrath of a couple of broken individuals, with axes to grind.
