The resolution war is real, people. We all know there’s drama about Xbox One vs PS4 when it comes to resolution, but there’s really no contest when it comes to PC, right? We can all accept this. However, people are wont to get mighty upset when Xbox tries to pass off PC footage as Xbox footage, and rightfully so.
Xbox has apologized for any confusion they might have caused by posting footage of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on their channel that was actually captured on PC. A major giveaway? The gameplay video plays at 1080p/60fps while the Xbox One version of the game will only reach 900p/30fps. Obviously the comment section raged and a Microsoft rep ended up making the following statement to Gamespot:
This morning we posted a new trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to our YouTube channels featuring footage provided by CD Projekt Red that was captured from the PC version of the game and may not be reflective of final Xbox One gameplay. This was in no way intended to misrepresent the title on Xbox One. We have updated the description of the asset to make clear the source and platform of this footage. We apologize for any confusion and look forward to the game arriving on both Xbox One and PC on May 19, 2015.
I suppose they had to apologize, but I don’t understand why they didn’t just get their own Xbox trailer showing how it will look on the console. Xbox One is getting preferential treatment for The Witcher, but it seems like strange bedfellows to me. Obviously CD Projekt Red made some sort of deal with Microsoft, but the game will look the worst on that platform. It’s still going to be gorgeous, don’t get me wrong, just not as stunning as it will be on PC. Or PS4, for that matter.
