Xbox Live Down for 24-Hour Maintenance on Sept. 29

1 min read

I hope you didn’t have any big Xbox Live plans on Monday, September 29, because Microsoft’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb has posted a notice that the online service will be down for maintenance, potentially lasting all day.

“On Monday, 9/29/2008 from 12:01 AM PST for up to 24 hours, Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance,” Hryb writes. In addition to Xbox Live being down, you won’t be able to access the “My Xbox” section of Xbox.com, and the Xbox forums will be in read-only mode. Do note that this downtime will not result in any new features once Live goes back up, it’s only intended to prepare the service for the big Xbox Dashboard re-launch set to happen later this year, that’ll add new navigation features and as well the Microsoft Avatars.

So hopefully this means the Big Update is just around the corner, I know allot of people have expressed they have no interest in the new avatars or for that matter, most of the new features. I however am really excited and can’t wait to try out the new party system, participate in 8 way chats and yes, customise my avatar.

[Ed]For those, like me, who get utterly lost in time zones here is a pretty chart for you.

Local Time Start End
England (8 hours ahead) 8am (29th) 8am (30th)
South Africa (10 hours ahead) 10am (29th) 10am (30th)
Australia (18 hours ahead) 6pm (29th) 6pm (30th)

I think that’s correct?
