Well here’s some bad news for any Xbox Live members in the US, UK, Canada or Mexico… or anyone using one of those countries as your illicit residence for Live purposes.

Major Nelson has announced a price increase effective as of the 1st of November for each one of these areas.

The worst affected for once is the US which will see price increases across the board while the UK and Canada only see prices on the month to month option with Mexico seeing a price increase on it’s yearly cost.

According to our interview with Microsoft about Xbox Live locally we may be able to transfer our illegal accounts to South Africa but since those costs haven’t yet been confirmed it’s to early to say whether that will be a good idea or not just yet.

No reasons were given for the price increase but while the Internet may have a mini implosion about it the increase isn’t enough to make anyone can their subscription.

Especially the Mexicans who are still getting their Live fix for $14 less than the Americans per year.

You can however avoid the price increase if you live in America by clicking here and getting 12 months for $39.99… for a limited time only.

I think it’s a bit crap that they increase pricing, but still keep the US dashboard so ridiculously full of ads.

I also can;t help but feel that this is a Halo or Kinect Tax. They know they’e losing money on Kinect, so why not bump up the price of something they KNOW people will pay for? Bastards.

I still think they are going to sell bucketloads of Kinects… I think this is more charging more than Sony for something that is better. It really is unwarranted though.

Yeah, I also think that Kinect is going to sell tons – but it’s selling at a loss.

With which part? Kinect selling more or Xbox Live being better than PSN?

it could be that as they are expanding into newish territories, so the requirements for infrastructure/value added services are increasing; coupled with inflation, i see no untoward behaviour.

kinect will eventually pay for itself if not turn a profit within a year or two. so i don’t see that being a feasible rationale.

For only $10 more they are getting Kinect enabled ESPN over Live for a year. Not a bad deal considering ESPN has the major sports.
