Witcher2

As an RPG player, Polish developer CD Projekt’s  The Witcher 2 is high on my list of wants. The first game was fantastic, featuring an ambiguous sense of morality and real consequences for your actions – making it one of the few games to actually put emphasise the “Role Playing” bit of RPG. It was a mature title – by way of featuring prostitutes and their boobs, but the 2nd game is set to be even more mature…thematically at least. It also draws inspiration from a range of titles including the underappreciated, incredibly difficult RPG unleashed by From Software, Demon’s Souls.

“I can’t say specifically whether it’s Heavy Rain, Demon’s Souls or Arkham Asylum that has inspired us most over the past few years – it’s probably a mix of all of them,” Tomasz Gop said to Edge Magazine. “I think everyone will find elements of Demon’s Souls, though, definitely.

“We don’t auto-scale opponents, for example. If you want to compare it to anything, Demon’s Souls is definitely good. I’d like that, for sure. Not everybody feels comfortable with playing games that do not always tell you what to do. But on the other hand, we always tell people that this is an adult game, it’s a mature game,” said Gop continuing with “… So I could say that young people won’t be that keen on The Witcher 2 – but then, on the other hand, that’s not such a bad thing. We probably are one of the few developers that do not give up too much in terms of accessibility. In that respect I think we maybe are a bit like From Software. That would be a good comparison.”

Citing 3 of my favourite games from the past few years as inspiration for the sequel to one of the most refreshing RPG’s in years? Where the heck do I sign?
