Yup, it’s already Thursday. Sort of like a fake Friday, it’s that point in the week when we realize the weekend isn’t quite so far away. So here is your weekly indie gaming news – you better appreciate it as I had to tear myself away from playing Papers Please in order to write this for you!

First up, we have news that Xbox One’s indie program, ID@Xbox, will allow independent developers to self-publish using any business model that they like. Yup, this means that indie gamers can chose whether they want to use free-to-play, micro-transactions or premium pricing.

Staying with indie game distribution, Midnight City is a new indie publishing label founded by Casey Lynch, previously editor-in-chief at IGN, and Doug Kennedy, who headed Reverb Communications, a video game marketing and public relations company. They have announced 10 new games – check out their promo video where you can see someone pushing a fake Oculus Rift.

Next, local is lekker with Thoopid, an indie mobile game company based in Cape Town. I’m seriously intrigued by their physics-based puzzle game releasing soon on iOS and Android. Gotta love the graphics and design of Snailboy: An Epic Adventure. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this one:

Speaking of cool looking games, I’m feeling some serious chemistry with Sokobond, a game looking for love on Steam Greenlight. Maybe it’s because bonding was my favorite part of higher level chemistry, but this description makes me far happier than it should:

Sokobond is an elegantly designed puzzle game about chemistry. The puzzles involve arranging atoms into molecules. It’s logical, minimalist, and crafted with love and science.

Mmmmmm, love and science. What more do we need?

Looking to pick up some cheap indie games? Well, there’s the Groupees bundle which includes games like Super Sanctum TD, Three Dead Zed, Sanctum 2 – OST and Turba. Or, finishing today, there’s the Humble Weekly Sale, featuring a variety of games from Paradox Interactive such as The Showdown Effect and Magicka.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but whips and chains excite me 😛

I’m all for a good whack with a riding crop or paddle, but that whip will take the skin from your body. Not a pleasant prospect.

ID@Xbox – I wonder if the person who decided on that name ever considered that there may be a negative interpretation.

I went to a Microsoft sponsored Indie dev meeting 2 months ago (I actually invited @umarbastra:disqus and he turned me down like the cheap whore he is ) where they showed off snailboy, I even got 5 minutes of play time, AWESOME! Flip it looks amazing! Interestingly, a lot of people had some harsh words for the devs because they only showcased the final product, thus leading many to jump to the conclusion they were using the meeting as a marketing tool. Either way, damn beautiful game.
