Who would have thought that a game featuring a yellow electric rat could do so well? Nintendo launched Pokemon X and Y worldwide on Saturday, a first for the franchise, and they cleaned up pretty well – shifting plenty of units across the world.
Four million Pokémon X and Y games were sold in just two days across Japanese, American and European territories, making this the fastest-selling 3DS game that Nintendo has ever released. It’s way up on the previous Pokémon game, Black and White 2 by a massive 70% margin as well.
Pokémon has always been a good seller for Nintendo, but you can bet that the bubbly is flowing right now in the offices of Mario and Zelda. So far, Pokémon has been a license to print money, selling 245 million games worldwide in total.
I’m 18 hours into X and Y, and honestly, I can see why. This just might be one of the very best Pokémon games ever made.

Over 4 million copies in 2 days? That’s impressive for a Pokemon game on the Nintendo Platforms… but I’d still skip on it. Not a Pokemon fan.

Can I just say something here, the new layout of this website is really annoying. There are popups everywhere and the text on top of the screen bleeds into the article below.

There shouldn’t be any pop ups at all? We added sharing buttons on the left and a floating bar for easier navigation? Is that the problem? Can you take a screenshot?

The way it is now, you cant fix it per se.
I would intentionally place the header and menu on different lines, title being underneath the menu. Some titles are longer than this one, and even on 1080p some titles will cause the misalignment of the menu. Alternatively, you could change the menu to mirror the share links.

It would still misalign – and then you’d have the menu sort of ugly and underneath the header with black backgrounds to just nail the ugliness home. Rather intentional design than unintentional distortion.

Use percentages for your sizes. That will then dynamically give it a fixed % of screen real estate regardless of res

That works for a lot of things, but not fonts. Fonts should be using the em system, but I’ve never had to dynamically scale the size of them. It sounds like an interesting project really.

I’m also using Chrome… if I zoom in on page to greater than 100% it does that… just zoom out a bit…

Okay from a designers point of view, the white text under the black needs to have transparent black behind it as well. Simply annoys me looking at it.

Well, my point was that this ridiculous song makes people go mental – and its really really stupid. Pokemon however is a great game, and as a game its addictive and fun. People would do much better to go mental over Pokemon that 90% of the other crap out there.
In this universe the fox says nothing.
