Tequila

Tequila often leads to strange pairings, as any bartender or bar fly can attest. However, at last year’s Spike VGAs, it helped bring Telltale Games and Gearbox together, eventually leading to that strange love child that will be Tales from the Borderlands.

Telltale Games is best known for their amazing interactive story-telling adventure of The Walking Dead. When seated near the guys from Gearbox, all it took was some cocktails to bring them together, as they told Polygon:

We were backstage at the [2012] Spike VGAs, and Gearbox was sitting at table one and we were sitting at table two — we were there for The Walking Dead. We got to talking a little bit, and I don’t remember when it the night it became, “we should do this thing,” but it happened over a few cocktails.

We could have easily left it and chalked it up to too much tequila, but we followed up when we got home, and they remembered the conversation. The Borderlands universe has so much story potential, all those great characters. There’s a narrative there in Borderlands 2 but it serves a certain purpose, and we can serve a difference purpose with it for fans of the franchise.

Another project they are taking on in 2014 (beyond finishing Season 2 of The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us) is a Game of Thrones game. Apparently, that game will draw upon the books and series to tell a part of the story we may not have seen thus far – their arrangement with HBO is a multi-year, mutli-title deal:

We want franchises that are really difficult to translate into traditional gaming, we don’t want to make another Walking Dead first-person shooter. What works with the franchises we have it the characters, the story and drama and the relationships. We look for franchises that are huge and have all those elements.

To be honest, I’m not entirely excited about a Game of Thrones game, and I’m also skeptical about Tales from the Borderlands. That said, the Telltale crew has done a fantastic job with The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us; I’m sure they will surprise me with a whole new approach to these other games, too. Or maybe I’ll just have to drink plenty of Tequila…

I started, but my Xbox keeps giving shit… so gotta do some maintenance on it so I can actually play games without my profile corrupting every time I start it up or leave a game.

Yeah, and it apparently just gets better.

I tried!!! Have to get the Xbox sorted so I can actually download it.

I actually have The Witcher 2 for PC as well… but it’s easier to play on Xbox.

I have some nice games to get my teeth into over the next few months now. Witcher 2, Metro: Last night, Red Dead Redemption, and need to get back into GTAV after a pissed up Christmas! What games on Xbox do we actually have to look forward to this year?

Very tempted to do the same… I haven’t had a decent cricket game in a long time.

What? International Cricket on Xbox is fun, but not terribly good… it’s unbelievably easy on the hardest difficulty… Brian Lara Cricket 2007 was pretty decent… EA Sports Cricket 2005 was TERRIBLE… Brian Lara Cricket 99 was pretty good… Then there was Jonty Rhodes Cricket which was pretty awesome for its time.

It’s time for a decent, realistic cricket game, and Don Bradman 14 looks to be it.

As much as I loved The Walking Dead games from TellTales, their fanbase that they had built up until that stage is not very happy with them. I became a big fan of theirs from Sam and Max S1E2 came out, and have bought every game of theirs since. I stopped with The Wolf Among Us. I went onto their forums (I was once a regular member, but fell away about a year ago), and most of the people there are not happy either. TellTale started off making these great puzzle adventure games, and they have turned their back on those. We’re hoping that Borderlands is a return to that, or at the very least some announcement about a Sam and Max season 4.

I’m actually pretty interested to see what comes of this, it could be a pretty funny adventure game as Borderlands has some decent humour.
