If there’s one genre that got some love this year, it was the one of fisticuffs and scantily clad female combatants. Fighting games helped kick off the first half of 2012, with a few heavyweights stepping up in the latter half of the year, but there could be one champ at the end of the day. And that KO punch of sublime victory came from…
Street Fighter X Tekken
Pound for hadouken, Street Fighter X Tekken was one of the purest fighting games released this year. An idea that would have been a wet dream for fans several years ago, the Capcom developed title was fast, fluid and furious in execution, as it combined the best of that particular style of fisticuffs with iconic characters from the two franchises.
But it’s a fighting game for purists that really sets Street Fighter X Tekken apart, as the new Gem and Pandora additions to the tag team gameplay revealed a title that was crawling with features and ideas, just waiting to be discovered by purists.
Distinctive, inviting and pure fun for newcomers and hardcore fans, Street Fighter X Tekken takes the crown this year as the best of the best when it comes to face-smashing.
