Silent Hills is officially dead

I want to say I called it way back when Konami and Hideo Kojima started rubbing each other up the wrong way, but it feels far too cruel to revel in such sadness. Following numerous rumors and hints from major figures connected to the project, Konami has officially killed all hope of Silent Hills – coupled with a whirlwind of controversy.

It all began this weekend, when film director and co-director of Silent Hills, Guillermo Del Toro, stated at a film festival that the game was “not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart.” Shortly after that, actor Norman Reedus of Walking Dead fame (who was contributing his likeness to the project) also seemed to confirm that the game was on the rocks – publicly stating that his involvement was done and dusted.

And while those were both telling signs, it still hadn’t come from the horse’s mouth essentially. It took a few long, agonizing hours, but Konami eventually released a statement of their own (the second for the day, in fact) which confirmed that the project in its current state would not be continued.

Konami is committed to new Silent Hill titles, however the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued.

In terms of Kojima and Del Toro being involved, discussions on future Silent Hill projects are currently underway, and please stay tuned for further announcements.

Konami also revealed that the extremely well designed teaser, P.T, would also be pulled from PSN sometime this week – eradicating all traces of the most promising Silent Hills project in recent memory. The IP still belongs to the publisher, and they’ve assured fans that there are plans to continue it in the future. But that’s going to be without Kojima, without Del Toro – and possibly, by then, without any real fans.

At this point though, there’s very little looking bright in Konami’s future. Although it still has to be officially confirmed, Hideo Kojima is expected to leave the publisher after the launch of The Phantom Pain – which will bring an end to his era of Metal Gear titles. Without that, and now a strong Silent Hills project, what’s actually left?

This is funny because he is Asian and this is likely happening behind the scenes at Konami.

Konami tried to bully Kojima into doing another Metal Gear Solid and he said that he doesn’t want to as he has finished the story (twice after this new one). And that started this shit storm.

Konami still has Castlevania and Zone of Enders. But I think ZOE might be Hideo Kojimas title as well. If not, then Konami will have no choice but to make sequels for these games which is good. Or a new IP all together.

Bloody hell, Konami. Just sell off your IPs if you’re so hellbent on just making pachinko machines.
We might actually get another Zone of the Enders that way.
