The latest Humble Bundle book bundles are all about history and heresy

In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war, for those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. The latest two book offerings from Humble Bundle complement each other to a tee.

The History Bundle presented by Associated Press delves into the recent past, and in some cases the present, to cover a range of individuals and topics in the realms of war, politics, sport, science and the arts.

As always the bundles have their various tiers, so let’s get right into it. For the princely sum of $1 you’ll receive the following five pieces of non-fiction compiled from the news vaults of the Associated Press:

  • Muhammed Ali: Athlete of the Century
  • Apollo 11: How America Won the Race to the Moon Alice
  • The Torch Is Passed: The Death of President John F. Kennedy
  • The Warren Report: The Official Report on the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy
  • The Hubble Space Telescope: A Universe of New Discovery

Pony up $8 and you’ll receive a further eight titles covering the following:

  • Bob Dylan: Private Man, Music Legend
  • The Boston Marathon Bombing: The Long Run from Terror to Renewal
  • Katrina: 10 Years Under Water
  • Fishermen Slaves: Human Trafficking and the Seafood We Eat
  • My Time with the Kings: A Reporter’s Recollections of Martin, Coretta and The Civil Rights Movement
  • Saigon Has Fallen: A Wartime Recollection
  • World War II: Unforgettable Stories and Photographs by Correspondents of The Associated Press
  • Boko Haram: Deadly Terrorism in Nigeria

The final tier will set you back $15 and includes the following six titles in addition to those above:

  • Putin’s Opponents: Enemies of the People
  • Defeating the Islamic State Group: The Battle for Kobani
  • Marijuana Nation: The Legalization of Cannabis Across the USA
  • Pearl Harbor: An Associated Press Special Anniversary Edition
  • Dwight D. Eisenhower: An Associated Press Biography
  • Triumph and Tragedy: The Story of the Kennedy’s Early Years

That’s a pretty diverse array of subjects for the history buffs among us, some of which are quite topical.

Following in the footsteps of history is The Horus Heresy Bundle presented by Black Library. It chronicles the events around the darkest day in the Imperium of Man’s history – when the Emperor’s favourite son, the Warmaster Horus, was corrupted by the forces of Chaos and rose in rebellion against his father which precipitated over 10,000 years of war.

Why couldn’t he have done something simple, like fire a finance minister after believing an intelligence report (because that’s what they’re called, not necessarily what they include) that looks like it should be written in crayon?

Anyway, again for $1 you’ll receive the following:

  • The Horus Heresy Book 1: Horus Rising – Dan Abnett
  • The Horus Heresy Book 2: False Gods – Graham McNeill
  • The Horus Heresy Book 3: Galaxy in Flames – Ben Counter
  • The Horus Heresy Book 4: The Flight of the Eisenstein – James Swallow
  • The Horus Heresy Book 5: Fulgrim – Graham McNeill
  • Garro: Oath of Moment Audiobook
  • Black Library Sampler
  • Talisman: The Horus Heresy Prospero Expansion DLC

The last item on the above list you require a copy of the ‘Talisman: The Horus Heresy’ game. For the price of one fire pool, or $8, you’ll receive the following in addition to the above:

  • The Horus Heresy Book 6: Decent of Angels – Mitchel Scanlon
  • The Horus Heresy Book 7: Legion – Dan Abnett
  • The Horus Heresy Book 8: Battle for the Abyss – Ben Counter
  • The Horus Heresy Book 9: Mechanicum – Graham McNeill
  • The Horus Heresy Book 10: Tales of Heresy – short story anthology
  • Garro: Sword of Truth audiobook
  • The Horus Heresy Wallpaper Collection Vol 1
  • Warhammer 40,000: Will or Iron #0

The $15 third tier will net you the whole enchNkandla, and includes the following in addition to all the above:

  • The Horus Heresy Book 11: Fallen Angels – Mike Lee
  • The Horus Heresy Book 12: A Thousand Suns – Graham McNeill
  • The Horus Heresy Book 13: Nemesis – James Swallow
  • The Horus Heresy Book 14: The First Heretic – Aaron Dembski-Bowden
  • The Horus Heresy Book 15: Prospero Burns – Dan Abnett
  • Garro: Legion of One audiobook
  • Macragge’s Honour graphic novel
  • The Emperor’s Will art book
  • Warhammer 40,000: Will of Iron #1
  • 75% discount coupon for The Battle of Tallarn on Steam
  • 33% discount coupon for Battlefleet: Gothic Armada on Steam

That’s a hell of a lot of bang for your buck, and it barely scratches the surface of the Horus Heresy novels of which 41 are already published. I’ve read a number of the Horus Heresy novels and if you’re a fan of the Warhammer 40k universe, or dark sci-fi action in general, I can highly recommend them.

So there we have it – history and heresy. Do any of these tickle your fancy?

  1. Been wanting to read the Warhammer 40K books for a while, but I have no idea where to start. I hate starting in the middle of a string of books.

This is worth it then. There are so many to choose from, and this particular series is massive as well. Luckily most of the various series are self-contained & don’t rely on you knowing much about other books or having lots of knowledge about the universe. Dan Abnett’s Gaunt’s Ghosts series is probably my favourite out of all the ones I’ve read.

The two Blood Angel omnibuses are pretty good as well.

Yeah, actually, when I saw it was a subscription thing, I’ve decided against it.
I’ve done it 3 times before (LOTR chess set, Batman chess set and an old fantasy game thing) and each time, despite paying my fee, they stopped sending me the stuff.
Thanks for pointing me toward it, I wish it were in another format, but I can’t see myself doing this.

That sucks. I’m hoping it doesn’t happen to me, but one never knows.
