Final Fantasy 8 is out soon with a facelift that would make Tom Cruise seethe with jealousy as he lays within his bathtub of moisturiser and stem cells if he caught wind of it. September 3 is when the best Final Fantasy arrives, but don’t just take my word for it. Here’s Square Enix delivering the good news.

For veteran Final Fantasy 14 fans, Shadowbringers may just be the definitive expansion in the long history of that franchise but for newcomers such as myself who have managed to sink many hours into the product, it’s still a daunting road ahead. So daunting in fact, that Square Enix is looking to take its main chunk of opening exposition and quests, squishing them together and creating a far more condensed and streamlined start from A Realm Reborn into Heavensward.

So how does the game handle then for newcomers? With Shadowbringers being recently released, somebody needed to do the legwork and find out if Final Fantasy XIV wasn’t just worth an investment of personal time, but also worthy of the monthly cost that Square Enix charges to play the game in addition to its premium price to hop on in. That man…is somehow me.

Sony Pictures Television, Square Enix, and Hivemind are working together to create a live-action Final Fantasy TV series. It will tell an original tale set in the world of Eorzea, which was popularised by the MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Chocobo World may be missing from the package, but Final Fantasy 8 Remaster will have a few other extras for returning and new fans.

With a remaster around the corner and the memory of the more slap-dash port that was Final Fantasy 9, fan fears over Final Fantasy 8 being another rushed port to newer consoles are justified, especially in the audio department. Well fret not, because Final Fantasy 8 Remastered is sticking to the superb PSX source files.

It looks like the two-decade long exile is finally over. Final Fantasy 8 is coming back.
