Sometimes, I really hate it when I’m right. When the early trailers for Neill Blomkamp’s Chappie was released, I voiced some trepidation. As much as I loved District 9, Blomkamp’s third pic was showing signs of the same type of problems that plagued his second feature, Elysium. But Blomkamp is a smart, talented guy. He wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes …

One of the big stories of yesterday was the fact that Neill Blomkamp and star Sigourney Weaver alluded heavily to the fact that the South African born director’s planned Alien film will be a direct sequel (the “genetic sibling”, as Blomkamp put it) to Aliens, ignoring the events of Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. This of course promptly broke the …
If you’re one of the folks that – like me – are worried that the inclusion of Die Antwoord will ruin Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming Chappie, then I’m here to tell you that it did. At least when it came to making the movie. Speaking to News24, veteran actor Brandon Auret, who has appeared in all of Blomkamp’s movies thus far …

I know that it’s seriously flawed, and its final act is a mess (probably due to the film’s almost legendary production woes which saw a young first time director David Fincher being bullied by just about everybody into making the movie they wanted) but there are still …
Whether you liked or hated his movies, it’s hard to deny that Neill Blomkamp has a unique style that is applied to whatever he works on. After hitting the big time with District 9, Blomkamp followed that effort up with Elysium, and then Chappie which is out later this year. So what’s next for Blomkamp? At one point, he teased …
In space, nobody can hear you sequel. Much like the titular Xenomorphs who headline the movies, the Alien franchise is far from dead. It’s merely resting, waiting for a new director with a new vision to come along and revive it. One such director? Neil “District 9” Blomkamp. Clearly interested in one day putting his own spin on the franchise, …
Many years ago, a Portuguese cafe owner told me “NO SHANGE ONLY SHAPPIES!”. I had no idea what he meant, but beneath all that simmering low-cost rage and poor attempt to disguise his thinning hair, he might have been forecasting an upcoming 2015 film. That film is indeed called Chappie, as director Neill Blomkamp reunites with his frequent acting collaborator …
