Besides the massive amount of trailers of games I’ve never heard about during the PC Gaming Show, a common thread poked its head out of all the scripted interviews and “surprises” the developer had in store for us: the ability to do first person shooter virtual reality. If there’s one thing that everyone (fine, me) is looking forward to, it’s being able to walk around and actually shoot things in Virtual Reality, instead of merely being an “observer”.

The Killing Floor Incursion uses Touch by Oculus in VR (Their answer to HTC Vive’s own controllers) , which provides a unique bit of immersion that you can glean from the trailer—recoil. That simple act of Newton’s 3rd Law is about as much immersion as anyone needs.

Serious Sam VR: The Last Hope is coming to Steam Early Access in Summer 2016, and will make use of the HTC Vive. If you’re Serious about VR, then this is something to watch out for.

For those wanting a bit of a Matrix like encounter, complete with apparently encountering the “real”, Superhot also using Oculus Touch, has a really catchy trailer showing complex dual wielding gun and hand movements with on the fly fist fighting. This initial take on first person VR shooters still looks like actual movement is limited, with the game “throwing” things at a stationary gamer, it’s a good first step for the tech’s ability to do FPS virtual reality.
