Last week, Darryn’s told you about the crazy world of Pokémon GO. Foiled robberies? The discovery of corpses? A brave man catching critters while his wife was in labour? You’d think this madness was a once off affair, but it looks like it’s only just getting started…
A man from Palmview, Texas, took to Facebook to tell Pokémon players that he and his friends planned to do some purging with their modified paintball guns. Here’s the post in its entirety:
The shooting spree of douchebag proportions never took place. Somebody reported Mr Cerda to local police, which lead to him getting arrested. Oh sweet justice (rains from above)!
Another shooting did actually take place over the weekend though. In Florida, a man opened up fire on two Pokémon GO players parked outside his house, who he mistook for criminals. What made him pull the trigger? The fact that he heard one of them say, “did you get anything?”
Now, if you’ve played Pokémon GO, you’d know this is a pretty standard question to ask a fellow trainer. This time however, instead of prompting the usual response of “nothing”, or “OMG CHARMANDER!”, it was met with a hail of bullets. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Meanwhile, in MMA land, one fighter decided to play Pokémon IRL. After giving his opponent a healthy helping of knee-to-the-face (it was brutal), Michael “Venom” Page decided to evolve from brawler to trainer. He donned a cap, and proceeded to throw a Pokéball at his downed opponent.
Sometimes, you just have to go that extra mile to catch that rare Pokémon. Four teens did just that, except instead of walking on land, they decided to go deep underground, 100ft to be exact, into a network of caves in Wiltshire, England. Naturally, they got horribly lost.
There was light at the end of the tunnel for them at least. The four teens managed to snag a slice of cellphone signal (miraculously they say), which they used to call for help. They have since been rescued. Sadly, their underground exploration yielded no rare Pokémon.
Speaking of rare Pokémon, one spawned in Central Park recently, which caused a stampede of trainers. Here’s the effect a wild Vaporeon will have on trainers…
That’s just a few of the stories I came across this morning, and I don’t think they’ll be the last. Have you seen anything crazy take place thanks to Pokémon GO? Are you still addicted to the game, or have you moved on?

Was gonna comment this! Fractured skulls are never pretty.
But it just shows how hard knee can be, especially when someone has been training muay thai.

The actual physical healing should be the same as for any other broken bone. But the mental state might take a while to get back to where it was, and I don’t mean because he might have bits of his skull lodged in his brain!
After a nasty knock like that, you always have to wonder “if I hit in the same spot, will i go through the same thing?” It can be very tough to come back after a nasty break.

Indeed, but the setting of the bone, eina! few operations, perhaps some wires, etc.
But yeah, career might be over

Dunno hey, MMA fighters at that level, those okes are a breed apart. They’re crazy enough to put these things behind them and carry on training.
When the skull crackee heard that he had a medical suspension for 6 months, be probably started inwardly cursing that he couldn’t train or fight anyone in that time.
Ever see Anderson Silva’s leg break against Chris Weidman?

I doubt I’m as bad as you (Matt) or Alessandro, but I am still playing Pokemon Go.
2 new ones added today, one caught and one evolution.
I doubt there will be stampedes like that in SA, but hey, you never know. Hopefully no one here is dumb enough to walk off a cliff.

There are normally signs of our collective growth as a species. Man on the moon ( f*ck off conspiracy nutters ), Breaking the sound barrier, The Internet etc etc etc. Then this shite happens and much of that work is undone……

I don’t think you understand what “leisure time” is. Let me tell you, playing a game when you are of from work is pretty much a normal activity.

So many people are hating it seemingly just because it’s so popular. But there are many advantages. For me, it’s packed full of nostalgia, I’ve met some new people with similar interests but above all I’ve gotten more exercise in the last week than I have since the beginning of the year! The PTA zoo on Saturday was filled with random kids and adolescents who, in a surprising way, felt like they were all friends. Everyone was on the same team and helping each other. It was miraculous to witness.
Sure, there’s some crazy shit going down in other news. But all good things come with their downfalls.

For as long as I can remember people have been
complaining that “kids don’t play outside anymore”… Now there’s a
popular app that’s encouraging people of all ages to walk around their
neighborhoods, meet up with other members of their local community, and
discover local landmarks like art murals, historical markers, and scenic
overlooks. But, of course, it’s all bad because the app is Pokémon. I
think some people just like to complain.

I dont get it. Eevee spawns like crazy around here. You catch a few of those, name one “Rainer”, and you have a Vaporeon. I could evolve 2 eevees in one night of playing.
