There is no shortage of sites that promise to turn a video into an audio file. Finding one that does it without burying the download under three fake buttons is the harder part. I put five through the same set of tests and scored each out of ten on the things that decide whether you come back: clean run to the file, quality control, honest limits, and how badly the page tries to trick you.
Scores are blunt on purpose. Here is the board.
The scoring, top to bottom
A quick word on method. Same five links each: a music video, a long lecture, a clip with a quiet source, a private video to confirm honest failure, and a phone-browser run. Points came off for pop-ups, low default quality, and silent waits.

First place: savemp3, 9.0
The video to mp3 converter from savemp3 took the top spot by doing the boring things right. Paste a link, set the bitrate up to 320, download. No account, no pop-up gauntlet, no redirect to a second site. It failed the private video, which is the correct answer, and it handled the long lecture without the silent stall that sank others. Lost a point only because, like every browser tool, it needs you online.
Second: vidtomp3, 6.8
Solid and quick for a single track. It dropped points for one pop-up per conversion and a default bitrate lower than I wanted, which meant catching and changing it each time. Nothing broken, just a few too many small taxes on your attention.
Third: mp3hub, 6.3
Capable, with a busier page than it needs. The convert button shares space with two that are not the convert button, and new users will click wrong at least once. Quality options were decent once you found them.
Fourth: freemp3cloud, 5.5
It works, eventually. The download sat behind the most aggressive ad layer of the group, and twice I was bounced to a page I had not asked for. If your priority is the fewest interruptions, this is not it.
The outlier: the manual editor route, 5.0
For completeness I included the do-it-yourself path, recording or importing the audio into a free editor and exporting an mp3. It scores a perfect ten on honesty and on tricks, because there are none, and top marks on quality since you control the export. It scores low overall only because it is slow and fiddly for anything more than the occasional file. Worth knowing exists, rarely worth the time.
What the numbers leave out
Two truths no score captures. Every tool here is capped by the source, so a rough upload converts to a rough mp3 regardless of who tops the board. And none of them, not even the manual route, can reach a private or region-locked video, so treat any site promising otherwise as a red flag rather than a feature.
For the everyday job of pulling clean audio off a video without a fight, the board says it plainly. Pick the one that scored highest on getting out of your way, grab only what you have the right to, and skip the other four.
