There’s been a lot of speculation that Nintendo’s Wii U is a actually quite a bit more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360 – but we’ve seen absolutely no evidence of this. Current games tend to be graphically worse on the newer Wii U than they are on the ancient consoles. That’s changing for Watch Dogs, which Ubisoft says is “between current and next gen” on the Wii U.

Speaking to CVG, creative director Jonathan Morin revealed that the Wii U version is technically superior to those found on the other available consoles./

“I would say the Wii U version is pretty much in between what the current gen is and what the next gen is from a version standpoint,” Morin said.

“It’s hard to position it. I would tend to say it’s maybe a bit closer to current gen than next gen for certain things but it’s a beautiful game on Wii U and it’s cool to play it just on the GamePad.”

While it might be superior, that doesn’t mean that it’s been specifically tailored to take real advantage of the Wii U’s gamepad though; it’s still the same core game.

“There are no new features or anything like that – it’s the same game but we’re optimising the controls for the beast that is the Wii U GamePad,” he said.

Me? I’ll be playing it on PC when it’s released locally on November 22.

    Love the header.

I feel sorry for the Wii-U. It’s really a great piece of tech and can be quite cool if devs would design properly for it. Unfortunately the next-gen console has taken the limelight. It’s a pitty really

Imagine games like Skyrim for example. The lockpicking? Imagine how cool it would be to try pick the lock on the handheld while trying to keep an eye on your main screen for anyone who may see you.

Or a puzzle game where part of the puzzle needs to be solved on the mini screen.

Or a game where interesting objects can be viewed in 3D etc etc

Absolutely. You can have your map or gps ‘open’ in front of you while walking around. Cuts out the need to contantly open up your map on the main screen. Near infinite possibilities there…

I own a WiiU and the only reason I have one is for Nintendo games. They can really stop making any other games for it…

All I want is Mario Kart and Smash Bros and more Mario!
