Windows 8 to play Xbox 360 titles?

Windows8

This is being put down as a massive rumour at the moment but two separate sites out there are both reporting that the upcoming Windows 8 will be able to play all Xbox 360 titles if you are running it on a machine with sufficient power.

Unfortunately I’m going to put this down as an impossible dream at the moment as it will just cause far too many problems for Microsoft and developers in development.

But according to metrowny

Microsoft has not made an official statement about the feature yet.  From the two sources, the Xbox Live Dashboard or marketplace will be accessible through the PC.  Users should be able to download and play any content from the Xbox Live marketplace as well as read game discs with their PC to play them.

Now I can believe that we’ll be able to navigate around the dashboard since that now offers far more than simple gaming with Netflix and Zune integration but when it comes to gaming I don’t think it’s going to be as easy as they state.

However where this rumour may start becoming a reality is with the next Xbox, if the next Xbox support backwards compatibility then Microsoft could have developed a Xbox 360 emulator to aid in that quest which then theoretically means they can run that emulator on a PC and as such they can built it into Windows 8.

It’s plausible, but I’m still sitting on the side of the fence that doesn’t expect this to happen? How about you?
