Xbox-One-storage

Whatever your taste, you only really need one of the current-gen consoles sitting on your shelf. Having both is a tad pointless, as the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 have their own set of pros and cons. One massive con that the Xbox One has however, is that it has the storage management of a kleptomaniac who specialises in elephant theft. Constant updates and patches mean that you’ll be running out of space rather quickly. Which is something that a beefier console can hopefully rectify. Or at least stave off for a while longer.

That’s according to a retailer listing on Spanish site Lamee (via VG247), which spotted a new Xbox One package with a 1 terabyte hard drive. Called the Xbox One Basic, the listing was removed, but not before a Google cache save gleaned a few other details from the link. A release date of June 23 was mentioned, and if that ain’t a place-holder, then expect some sort of E3 announcement. The current price for the new bundle was at €449.99, €50 higher than the current 500GB model in Europe.

XB1

It’s not the first such Xbox One bundle from Microsoft, as last year’s Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare came in a 1 terabyte flavour bundle. If you’ve got an Xbox One, then you’re either on the verge of attaching a portable hard drive to the console or already doing that. This wouldn’t be an issue exactly if the machine wasn’t so damn hungry for storage, as the advertised standard 500GB model only has under 300GB available for games and apps once you’ve taken the operating system and digital data tax into account.

And patches. So many damn patches and updates. Hopefully the new terabyte model sorts that issue out. It’s getting crowded in here.

Review is rubbish, Xbox One can already take up to 2 USB 3 drives of up to SIXTEEN TERABYTES plus you keep the internal 500GB so a total of 16.5TB.

You can even take the USB 3 drives with your games on to any other Xbox One, sign in and use them instantly and without and other downloading.

Lulz. Teasing. But I do still wonder why and HOW a 200GB OS is normal? I mean come on now PS4 and Bone, we’re in 2015, aren’t things supposed to be getting more streamlined?

          • Admiral Chief

            May 12, 2015 at 09:48

Indeed, and that is a fairly basic OS, so much more can be done in Windawz, and it is quite smaller in size.

Agreed, what is interesting is that the current gen consoles had a few moments of shine when it came to graphical fidelity, everyone was up in arms, then, a few moments later, the same games were shown at 4k resolutions and it was the whole thing over again…. That doesn’t even touch on the subject of efficiency with regards to space or resource utilisation. PCs, as much as anyone will argue, are still the best platforms for gaming, hands down….

          • Dawid Eduard Roestorf

            May 12, 2015 at 10:06

Nope, have to disagree with you there. PC is full of cheaters and thiefs, no graphical superiority can make up for the garbage you get on the PC through these cheaters. Even the 12 year old COD kids who call your mom names are better than the cheaters and thiefs on the PC.

Also, taken 5 hours just to get the game to run, constantly downloading drivers on drivers. I don’t have time to waste on a PC anymore. I like coming home, sitting on my comfy couch and playing my game on my TV.

            May 12, 2015 at 10:10

“5 hours just to get the game to run, constantly downloading drivers on drivers”
Doing it wrong then dude, seriously, it is not that hard.

I have not downloaded drivers in a long time, and even if there is a new release, my games will not suddenly stop working.

I’m already on the next level before the console has finished loading the first

I will remember this as I launch the The Witcher 3 and imagine the console buyers waiting for retail stores to open so they can purchase their Disks. Also remind me again which consoles don’t require an installation before launching the game again?

          • Greylingad[CNFRMD]

            May 12, 2015 at 11:27

It’s called “Building the right PC” It’s very simple really, you get someone with some savvy around the PC building fireplace and you ask them to recommend PC parts/builds that they would recommend within your budget, that person will, after he had done his ritual fire dance around said fireplace, give you a good estimate of hardware that works very well together, you then have to go out and buy it. Once everything has been put together and the OS has been installed, you are home free, plug in an HDMI cable from PC to TV and viola! You have a console that can do 4k video if you must and if you really don’t like playing with “PC Cheater” you can record the gameplay to report said cheater, something I believe you’d not be able to do on the 300GB of an XBone… But that’s just my opinion…Oh, and you can always join clans/crews/gangsta bangs etc. online if you want, then avoiding those filthy little cheater bastards….

          • Dawid Eduard Roestorf

            May 12, 2015 at 11:45

Ok, so Windows 8.1 costs about R1500

So please build me a PC for R4499. This should include a wireless keyboard and mouse.

          • Greylingad[CNFRMD]

            May 12, 2015 at 11:52

That’s quite simple actually, if you buy one console game a month, brand new, save that up for three months, buy windows 8.1 and then buy all three of those games, or better yet, wait for a steam sale, if you work on a two year waiting period for a less than $10 pricetag per game, you’d be able to fit a GTX Titan into your build…Or at least the relevant card for that time…

          • Dawid Eduard Roestorf

            May 12, 2015 at 12:01

Have not bought a game (other than ori and the blind forest) since Destiny was released. Yet have gotten 36 games with PS plus, and another 8odd from Live Gold membership.

I honestly do not spend that much on games, at all.

Also, your answer, You are telling me I have to wait 2 years to buy a PC, when I can be gaming right now?

Look, I konw PC games are cheaper yes. More convenient, No. Building a PC is very expensive, with a mid range PC machine coming to R10k – R15k

Given that pricetag, I would much rather play my PS4, and pay my yearly R749 PS Plus Membership

          • Greylingad[CNFRMD]

            May 12, 2015 at 12:43

Nope, I’m merely saying that if you do wait two years, you’d be able to afford something way better than what the average gamer would use, yes it is around 10 to 15k for an amazing PC right now, you are talking in the lines of a GTX 970 with an Intel mobo and i-7, not at all a mid range PC in fact, you could go the AMD route, for almost 75% of the price you’d be able to match the performance with a wireless mouse and keyboard… Thing is though, it’s your prerogative, you enjoy console gaming, I enjoy PC gaming, in the end we all love games…

          • Dawid Eduard Roestorf

            May 12, 2015 at 13:54

93GB because well….Linux and that’s why it looks so crappy. Also no media support to speak of. Luckily PS4 will never run out of storage space because….Indies. Lastly, should that ever happen(not sure how many Indies it’ll take) at least you have the Sony uninstall/re-install every time you get a new “game” right?????????????
