It’s been quite a while since we’ve seen the Mexican hero back on the big screen, and after the lacklustre performance of the previous Legend of Zorro film that was released in 2005, it’s been a well-deserved break indeed.
20th Century Fox has been looking for a way to bring back the swarthy vigilante as of late, and now they’re steering the legend into a new direction. The future to be precise, and they’ve found their actor to do so.
Gael Garcia Bernal will be slashing Z symbols on ne’er do-wells for Zorro Reborn, which see’s the vigilante taking on all manner of foes in a post-apocalyptic setting, against some mystery foes.
Currently, the film has a script written by Harker scribes Lee Shipman and Brian McGreevy, but the project is still in need of a director at this stage. Zorro fighting future-menace apocalypse foes, with hopefully, light-sabers?
Sounds kind of awesome, although I wish that the producers had made this Zorro film instead.

Zorro in the future? Really? Is he using a lightsaber?
The concept of Zorro worked well because of the setting. Having a guy whose only ability is proficiency with a point bit of metal, suddenly thrown into a more technologically advanced future just sounds ridiculous to me.
