This trailer for MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT has your back

A couple of years back, director Gareth Edwards made a name for himself with a low budget yet fresh flick by the name of Monsters. It was a tense movie, and was no doubt key to his success when landing the coveted job of directing the Godzilla reboot. Naturally, a sequel was drawn up after the original film made some decent coin, but don’t expect this one to be carefully orchestrated chills and thrills. It’s time for some hoo-rah action, baby.

Seven years on from the events of Monsters, and the ‘Infected Zones’ have spread worldwide. Humans have been knocked off the top of the food chain, with disparate communities struggling for survival. American soldiers are being sent abroad to protect US interests from the Monsters, but the war is far from being won. Noah, a haunted soldier with several tours under his belt, is sent on a mission: an American soldier has gone rogue deep in the Infected Zone, and Noah must reach him and take him out. But when Noah’s unit and transport are destroyed, he finds himself with only a young and inexperienced cadet for company – the brother of the man Noah has been sent to kill. The two soldiers must go on a life-altering journey through the dark heart of monster territory, accompanied by a young local woman to guide them. By the time the three of them reach their goal, they will have been forced to confront the fear that the true monsters on the planet may not be alien after all.

I’m kind of digging it. While this looks like your typical US army action that will most likely result in action scenes filmed by a cameraman with the shakes, this film looks like it’s going to be doing some decent world-building. And that’s something that I enjoy seeing in movies.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia’s M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!

Anyone else think that the scene where they hit the monster while driving looks like a cut scene from the first starcraft. Also has a very Aliens feel about it, but without the pulse rifles.

  • I still need to see the first one actually.

Once you get over the “they look exactly like octopuses” thing, it is an alright film.

      • I don’t know how to find it on “Netflix” as there are so many similar names…
