"Vaas didn’t exist when I auditioned for Far Cry 3" says Michael Mando

Vaas

I get you guys. I understand why you were upset when we named Claptrap the voice of gaming in 2012, instead of Michael Mando’s superb turn as the antagonistic Vaas in Far Cry 3. But here’s the thing: Michael Mando was far more than a mere voice behind a microphone. The man brought skill, talent and believability to a role that stretched beyond the audio, and into physical acting as well. So to address that injustice, our favourite contrarion Tauriq Moosa has gone and spoken to Mr Mando – and he revealed something interesting.

His incredible skills as an actor were integral in shaping the frightfully unhinged character.

Vaas didn’t exist when I auditioned for Far Cry 3. It’s true, Ubisoft liked my audition very much that they decided to write a new character for me, and asked me to help them create him. He was based on my liking: I did the full body and face motion capture, as well as the voice – all simultaneously. They were such a generous and collaborative team that they even designed his wardrobe and hair from rehearsal sessions where I had dressed up in order to help me get into character.

Want more Mando? Of course you do, dammit. And this has nothing to do with the halluconogenics I laced your coffee with. For the rest of Tauriq’s interview with the man behind Vaas, tune in tomorrow.

Something wrong gentlemen? You come here prepared to read the words of a madman, and instead found a lunatic obsessed with comics, Batman and Raul Julia's M Bison performance in the 1994 Street Fighter movie? Fine! Keep your bio! In fact, now might be a good time to pray to it!
