Clover Studio’s Okami is one of the last generation’s most beautiful games – and is a better “Zelda” game than most actual Legend of Zelda games. If you haven’t played it, it’s free to PlayStation Plus subscribers, and it’s also available on the Wii. If you have, you might be delighted to know that a sequel could be on its way.
In a very Nipponese tweet (via IGN) from the official Okami account (there’s an official Okami account?), the following message revealed that there’d be some Okami news on the way.
“Hello, this is Okami news. Sorry I’ve been kind of out of touch lately, but I have the feeling we’ll be able to drop a fresh announcement like WHAM! around the beginning of Golden Week, so please look forward to it. Right now we’re on track with preparations.”
Golden Week is a Japanese holiday that takes place between April 29 and May 5 – so we’ll find out pretty soon. Okami received a Nintendo-DS bound indirect sequel in the delightful charming Okamiden in 2010, but beyond the PS3 HD remaster, there’s been little news about everyone’s favourite celestial god wolf.
It would kinda be a perfect fit for the Wii U.

That’s why they’ve invented Golden Week. Milking the nation dry in a week.

You don’t need motion controls, you just need clever people. Those painting strokes with the analog sticks was so refreshing and the STYLE was pure art.
A masterpiece indeed but Shadow of the Colossus took the number 1 spot.
Japan rocked on the PS2.

Number 3. I found ICO in the clear out bin at Incredible connection for R59 🙂
Number 4 Snake Eater
Number 5 FFX
Number 6 Killer 7
Number 7 RE4
Number 8 Silent Hill 2
Number 9 Kingdom of Hearts
Number 10 Dragon Quest 8
Notice a trend? all Japanese.

Mass Effect, Skyrim, Bioshock, Deadspace, Tomb Raider, Far Cry…
Only 1 Japanese game squeezes in this gen and that is Lost Odyssey.

Lucky!. the PS3 HD updates were actually really good. ICO is an amazing game too, gameplay was a bit flawed but added to the charm. And I’m with you on that, I too was…well I am (trying hard) a Japanese fan. the best most innovative and heartfelt games came out of Japan. What the hell happened though ….. Silent hill is so far away from what made it good, nay AMAZING. Don’t get me started on RE or Final Fantasy. I still like KH, I think BBS was better than every single KH game since 2. I have High hopes for MGS 5. Bloody hell DQ is now a psuedo MMO. Suda51 is still whacky though lol
it’s sad man, it really is, I have so much fond memories of Japanese Games. I think Ni No Kuni is the last game that will make me feel Emotion

Wait what…? Those games are awful (except LO). Someone seems to have missed current gen Japanese gems such as Demons/ Dark Souls, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, Dragons Dogma, Zelda: Skyward Sword. All superior to the games you listed in every possible way.

Fuck I forgot about Dark Souls 🙁 Probably because my level 100 save file got corrupted thanks to this auto save every 15 seconds thing. I always shut down correctly but because they did this PPV thing or whatever it affected my single player experience 🙁

Mine was 175 when I got corrupted. Started a few new character since but it just doesn’t feel the same after how many runs i’ve done.

Japan still make the best games. Always have, always will. In fact the gap is even bigger this gen what with all the focus on FPS’s and multiplayer gaming in the west.

The xbox did try to capture the east but failed. If I had a PS3 I would have more Japanese games in my list but it came out a year earlier and for 2 thirds the price. Next gen its going to be even more divided thanks to EA jumping in bed with Microsoft.

Xbox was a bit of a pain for Japanese games. We got Dark Souls and Bayonetta though. PSP was definitely the best for it. If you didn’t own one I feel so sorry for you. lol.
