E3 2009: Xbox 360 is Maxed Out While PS3 Has More to Give?

2 min read

The Senior Vice President of EA Games Europe (Patrick Soderlund) claims that the 360 is just about ‘maxed out’ but not the PS3. He is quoted saying that he,

“like(s) the Natal…That’s cool. It’s an interesting device, so I’m truly impressed by Xbox. It’s my personal favourite console… I think Microsoft is on a roll right now. They’re doing really well. If I was Sony, I would have a headache, to be honest.”

But in contrast he also had some positive views regarding the PS3 (something of a silver-lining for Sony) as he says that,

“Sony has a lot of good games this year. If you go to their booth, there’s a very consistent, high quality product line-up and that will help them. I do think that we’ll see developers inside the organisation getting to understand the PS3 better and I think that we’re getting more power out of PS3 right now… I think that we’ve maxed out the 360 but we haven’t maxed out the PS3.”

So I’m pretty stoked for the PS3 since it seems that the sky is the limit but does this mean that as far as graphic potential goes for Xbox 360 games, well uhm… the limit’s the sky and we’ve hit it like a brick wall? Maybe developers will have to push the boundaries with fresh gaming concepts and playability then? I reckon that may not be such a bad thing in the end, what do you guys think?

  • It surprises me that this guy says that PS3 has great games and is more powerful and then choses the xbox due to a function that probably wont land in the next year.
A year is a long time in a consoles life and even longer when the console has reached its limit.

well i don’t know if he chose the xbox purely because of the Natal but he’s definitely excited about about it. i think he was just expressing his overall preference for the more popular xbox 360.
however he also reports on the PS3’s ‘silver-lining’ so to speak.
still i think the most important thing here what we think this may mean for the future of the games on these two consoles.
    any ideas :pirate:

You can’t trust this people saying consoles have reached their limit. Kojima said he PS3 is at it’s limit, what does that mean? Forza 3 looks like it set the bar higher than Gears 2 did on the Xbox 360. Not to mention Alan Wake and SC: Conviction.

One thing these people don’t mention is that development code is also becoming more optimized which means that they can squeeze more power out of each console, even the Wii.

  • Faheem Abrahams

now that’s one hellova good point! anyone else wanna comment on that? :ninja:

  • Yea the Wii can push out games that are starting to look like 1st gen ps2 games now. WOW

  • Faheem Abrahams

i think the point was that there’s still potential for growth above and beyond what was currently being produced for the console but yeah i agree very exciting stuff from the Wii(sarcasm)

Oh God here we go again. Will this never end. Save us all. My cousin says that his friend knows someone who knows someone that develops for both the ps3 and 360. He tells me that in actual fact the ps3’s a transformer, the 360 a terminator and the Wii a Gamecube. Yes you heard correctly, the Wii is a Gamecube…

Honostly, the ps3 did poorly, not so much because it is expensive but rather it received really bad press for a long time, much of it I dare say unwarrented. I often found this ironic since the 360 suffers from such a dreadfull failure rate. That being said more competition just means better games for us all.

Oh well back to work for me……

    The Conduit looks insane…

Saying this is so stupid. then they could just aswel say the PS2 was maxed out right after GT3 was released… Some of these guys need to shut up and just patch the freaking games they ship off so wonderfully plagued with bugs

  • Faheem Abrahams

HAHAHA well said bro – well said.

  • WitWolfyZA

    Lol thanks viva la Resistance

  • WitWolfyZA

Obviously with every new year Def tools become more sophisticated leaving the game developers more space to do what they intended to do with the previous installment of the game.

I love eye candy really i do

Just goes to show how stupid Sony really is. Lets say for arguments sake the Wii is just as powerful as the PS2 why dont Sony Make motion controls for the PS2 then??? I mean c’mon the thing sells at R1300 these days.

And to think this brain has to rot some day

  • That’s why I love computers, you can always upgrade them in any way you like.

  • The present belongs to PS3 too. Have you seen the game lineup of the past 12 months? It far surpasses the 360’s titles in terms of quality.

Whilst the 360 may have more titles, thats because a) it’s been out longer b)it’s becoming a shovelware platform.

  • WitWolfyZA

I agree with you my next xbox is going to be my 3rd one and my last one… when this one tanks ill get myself a Ps3 and wait for MS new console to arive eventauly
