Gearsleak

Ahhh crap. It looks like an early, non-final version of one of this year’s biggest blockbusters has leaked out into the seedy underbelly of the internet. Yup, Gears of War 3 has been leaked online.

Got a modified Xbox 360 and you’re busy firing up your torrent client as you read this? Don’t be so hasty, pirate scum – it’s a development version that wont run on your illicitly flashed console.

You’ll need a debug Xbox 360 or a JTAG modified console to run this particular leak, meaning it won’t be as widespread as regular pirate copies…yet. The version found online at the moment apparently contains the full single-player campaign as well as all multiplayer options – but it’s also apparently buggy as all heck. While it’s pretty unlikely you’ll be able to play this leaked copy, it does mean that you can expect spoilers to start popping up on popular video sharing sites like Youtube, and spread around forums. You’ll need to stay extra vigilant online if you don’t want to know how Gear’s Epic tale comes to a close.

I really wonder how this got leaked in the first place. You’d assume that any copies in the wild would belong to the development team or possibly given to trusted media partn…yeah, that’s probably how. I doubt Epic and Microsoft care too much right now, cos the game’s still gonna sell by the boatloads – but somebody, somewhere certainly needs a foot up his ass.

Gears of War 3 was originally scheduled to release this April, but was moved to September to increase polish, and benefit from holiday season sales.

Editor. I’m old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time – they were capable of being masterpieces. I’m here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
