Think you’ve got what it takes to go pro, bro? Then this month is one that you’ll need to start training for. The IeSF World Championships are around the corner, and the MSSA and MWEB are looking for some good gamers to go represent on the world stage. Here’s how you can get in on that action through the MWEB Western Cape Provincial Championships.
The championship will be going down at the Cape Town Bellville Sports Hall on August 24 and 25, with 2upGamers being the host club for the weekend. Entrance is R50 per registered gamer, except for Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm. That one’s a freebie.
This championship will also be used as part of the selection process for the 2013 IeSF World Championships, so it may be worth attending if you’re keen to go pro on a national and international level.
You’ll need to bring your own PC for all the games taking place on that platform, except of course for FIFA, Tekken and Gran Turismo which will be console games. Players who want to compete will need to have their annual registration forms completed before the event kicks off, with the cut off date being August 20.
Late entries will be accepted, but only if there is enough available space. In addition to that, this event will be open to any registered player, as the email from MSSA president Colin Webster states:
All gamers are reminded that the Championship is an open championship. In other words any Registered Player is entitled to enter the championship – no matter where they live, or their category of membership. If you have any queries, please contact the MSSA.

When they say ‘console’ to which are they referring? It matters, because of controller differences, surely?

Oi Darryn there isn’t a “Cape Town Bellville Sport Hall”, you are going to make the people stand outside a deserted Velodrome or Bellvile Sports grounds in the cold and rain.
It is to be held at Major Sports Hall at Cape Peninsula University of Technology’s (aka CPUT) Bellville Campus.
I give half the blame to the MSSA, CPUT Bellville Sports Hall is a crap desciption. (well at least they spelt Bellville correctly).

It was meant as a light hearted jab at Debra.
Important thing is those who want to go get the correct venue, Kaput University’s Bellville Campus.
