Oh it’s on! The mudslinging continues…

1 min read

catfight Ladies and Gentlemen, the main event will begin in just a few moments. Will you take your seats please… Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg has responded to SCE President’ Kaz Hirai’s recent otherworldly musings. Greenberg, who has the ridiculously long title of “Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live” had the following to say :

“This sounds like an old hardware company that’s comfortable with its market position. That complacent attitude is out of touch with where the industry and consumer is today. This generation won’t be won over just hardware specs, but who can out-innovate when it comes to online and software. This is the kind of stuff that’s in our DNA, and frankly moves the console war onto our home court.

I’m confident we will outsell the PS3 throughout the entire generation by providing more innovation and building the best and broadest games library while growing our entertainment experiences on the leading online network. With a U.S. install base lead now of more than 7 million units (according to NPD), I can’t imagine any scenario where the PS3 can catch up with us. In fact, even if you doubled the current PS3 sales and Xbox 360 remained flat, they couldn’t close the gap until 2014.”

I really was hoping Microsoft’s response would contain the same elements of delusion and lunacy, but it seems they’ve decided to stick to the facts. Pity, I was hoping one of them would say “Wellllllll MY daddy can beat up YOUR daddy.” Still, neither of them are acknowledging that when it comes to sales, Nintendo’s daddy could beat them both. At the same time. With his waggly hands tied behind his back.

Editor. I’m old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time – they were capable of being masterpieces. I’m here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.

Blinders, also known as blinkers or winkers, are a piece of horse tack that restrict the horse’s vision to the rear and, in some cases, to the side. They usually are made of leather or plastic cups that are placed on either side of the eyes, either attached to a bridle or to an independent hood. Many racehorse trainers believe this keeps the horse focused on what is in front of him, encouraging him to pay attention to the race rather than other distractions, such as crowds. Additionally, blinkers (then usually known as winkers) are commonly seen on driving horses, to keep them from being distracted or spooked, especially on crowded city streets. A “set of winkers” can refer to the whole bridle, particularly the heavy bridle used on draft horses. 🙂

  • “This generation won’t be won over just hardware specs…” Almost sounds like he’s admitting that the PS3 is superior in terms of hardware specs.

  • easy

    i noticed that too.
but i have to admit that that was a very good retort

  • Fox1

And those superior specs mean nothing 😀

  • easy

well done! the war is officially over and now we can all retreat to our lounges and start playing games instead of acting like numb nuts 😛

  • easy

you kinda wrong there, the superior specs have saved most ps3 owners from rrod like issues… obviously thats just a small consolation prize

  • Fox1

Thats because they dropped the Cell CPU from 3.2ghz to 2.6ghz. Anyway, people have paid R2500 to have a broken blu-ray laser PS3 replaced. And these are people that bought the console just to watch blu-ray movies 😉

  • easy

    you win big guy 8)
