Xbox 360 beats the PS3 in Japan?

Could the Xbox 360 actually beat the PS3 in Japan? Well if the first indications are anything to go by this is exactly what has happened in the last week.

The figures are not final yet but currently according to VGChartz the 360 sold 17 000 units last week in Japan while the PS3 only shifted 16 000.

The Wii still stands head and shoulders above the other two by moving  40 000 units…

So how did this happen, well Microsoft had some great bundles (Viva Pinata & Forza 2) as well as releasing Ace Combat 6 which was the second most popular game behind Mario Galaxy for the week.

The PS3 however is suffering because people are waiting for the 40GB model to drop and it also had no new releases. It also doesn’t have a single game in the top 10 at the moment.

So the figures are not really fair but you can imagine that Microsoft are very happy about this.
