IGN released a trailer for new action comedy Soldier of Fortune yesterday. What’s that? You had never of Soldier of Fortune before? Well, to be frank, neither had I.

Based on the actors involved though (Christian Slater, Sean Bean, Ving Rhames, Dominic Monaghan), my interest was piqued. And then promptly dashed again when I saw the trailer.

It’s not incredi-bad, it just looks like it’s severely lacking something. Coming across as the budget-conscious and stamp-collecting lovechild of Tropic Thunder and The Expendables, this seems to be just a lot of wasted potential, banking on word association with a big name rival to sell it.

But judge for yourself.

So am I the only one that feels like that seems to be playing it about as safe as it can get? Seeing as the film was handed an R rating, it may be that a red-band trailer would play out a lot more differently, but I have my doubts.

Also, did you notice how Sean Bean only really appears in scenes before all the main action gets underway? How much do you want to bet that he pulls a… well, a Sean Bean, and dies in the first half of the movie?

Plot synopsis:

Wealthy thrill-seekers pay huge premiums to have themselves inserted into military adventures, only this time things don’t go exactly to plan

Gah, these b-grade military movies are inevitably crap.
