It’s been 18 years since those goofy morons Harry and Lloyd first fumbled their way onto our screens, sporting a combined IQ lower than a Pygmy’s shoe size. We’ve since been subjected to one painfully unfunny prequel (with a different cast and crew), but nobody has been able to truly claim the powder blue and orange throne from Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels’ idiotic comedy duo.

Then it was finally announced that a true sequel, directed by the Farrelly Bros and starring Carrey and Daniels, would begin filming in September and all was right with the world. But now those dreams have been dashed, as Jim Carrey has decided to exit the project.

According to the report from ETOnline, Carrey is calling it quits on the much anticipated sequel due to his increasing frustrations with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros’ apathy towards the project. Seeing as how studios are increasingly taking less risk these days, you would have thought this film – with the hordes of fans of the first film – would have been a sure thing. Funny man Carrey echoed these sentiments:

“I would have thought Dumb and Dumber To was a no-brainer, after all it’s implied in the title.”

Now I know what that blind kid felt like when Petey the parakeet’s head fell off.

There’s been no word yet on whether or not Jeff Daniels and the Farrelly Bros will stick around, as I highly doubt that they would replace Carrey, especially given how poorly received the prequel was both critically and financially.

Well, until we hear anything further, I guess I’ll just have to drown my sorrows in some of Grandpa’s ol’ cough medicine.

PS: Before I get nailed by the grammar police, that is not a spelling mistake in the movie title. It was really going to be called Dumb and Dumber To.
