THE HOBBIT finally finishes shooting

The film that almost never was, has been through one heck of a journey so far, and there and back (badumtish). When Peter Jackson finished shooting his epic Lord of the Rings trilogy almost a decade ago, Hollywood was quick to order a prequel of sorts, based on The Hobbit book.

Cue several years of development hell, and it looked like the film would never be made. And then lo and behold, Peter Jackson returned, to finish what he started, by working on a film that was a start to a trilogy which he started, which was a finish to a….I’m confused now.Moving on, the Hobbit officially began filming last year, March 20. Jackson, his crew and the various actors have been hard at work ever since on the two films which were done back to back, and yesterday saw the final shots filmed, with Jackson posting the following picture on Facebook.

“We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit,” Jackson noted on the image. “Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!”

Yep, now the hard work begins, with all the necessary special effects work being added, scenes being cut here and there, and deciding which hours of footage to leave for the ultra-deluxe Blu-Ray edition, a move that will no doubt make Kervyn’s bank account cry out in anguish.

But as Jackson mentioned, he’ll be heading to Comic-Con next week. Lets hope that that convention rings out a little bit more footage out of the director.
