Director Richard Moore talks Easter Eggs and character cameos in WRECK-IT-RALPH

If you haven’t noticed yet, over here at The Movies we all happen to be quite avid gamers as well as movie lovers. But whenever those two worlds combine we always get a little nervous, and rightfully so based on how dreadful video game movies tend to be. (I’ve single-handedly paid off my therapist’s Clifton mansion after watching Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li.)

Wreck-It-Ralph is different though. Instead of a movie based on a video game, it’s a movie about the video game characters themselves. And based on this interview with director Richard Moore, us gamers (and comic book fans!) will have a lot to look forward to.

For those not in the know, Wreck-It-Ralph sees the titular character a bad guy in an 8-bit Donkey Kong styled video game whose longing to be a hero, gets him and his entire video game world in trouble when he stumbles into a First Person Shooter game, and accidentally unleashes a new enemy.

It certainly sounds pretty interesting and, being the comic book geek that I am, I particularly like the possibility of some Marvel characters making an appearance. I also love the fact that despite this film’s target market probably being a lot younger than my 31 years of age, all the Easter Eggs and random characters have been put in purely to appeal to my generation of gamers.
