It's an ode to explosions in this first trailer for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD

Well, lookee here. Dropping in from out of nowhere like a German terrorist kicked out the window of a skyscraper, we get the first teaser trailer for A Good Day to Die Hard. This comes right on the heels of the first official image showing John McClane and son engaging in some side by side ass kicking.

While the trailer is pretty light on dialogue or plot, it is heavy on the action all accompanied by a rather explosive rendition of Beethoven’s “Ode To Joy”. Also, boobs.

Since the first “Die Hard” in 1988, John McClane has found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, with the skills and attitude to always be the last man standing, making him enemy #1 for terrorists the world over. Now, McClane faces his greatest challenge ever, this time on an international stage, when his estranged son Jack is caught up in the daring prison escape of a rogue Russian leader, and father and son McClane must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.

While you really can’t judge much of the chemistry between McClane Sr and Jr from that trailer, as it pretty much just a slideshow of action, it does seem to hint at a bit of a lighthearted tone. The previous entries in the franchise may not exactly have been laugh riots, but they tended to have a slight wry undercurrent that sat well with the slightly unhinged McClane. That tone was sorely missed in the rather lackluster and dour Live Free or Die Hard, so while it’s great to see a hint of its return, I just hope that director John Moore (who is already on shaky grounds with me after the horrid Max Payne) hasn’t taken it to the opposite extreme either.

And now that the constructive criticism is out of the way, you may now feel free to make the dirty jokes about Willis dying hard after seeing that leather clad girl get undressed.
