All you have to do is accept his love in the trailer for THE LAST EXORCISM PART 2

Ever since the love-it-or-hate-it hit The Blair Witch Project in 1999, found footage films have become a strangely enduring fad, most likely due to the continuing success of the Paranormal Activity films and a few other surprise hits. In 2010, a found footage mockumentary called The Last Exorcism was released and, mostly quite rare for the genre, it was received well by the critics and managed to unsettle the bejeezus out of quite a few people, myself including.

Well, the franchise seems to have taken the Blair Witch route as they have taken a step away from found footage genre, which is quite a bold move considering that the Blair Witch sequel was predictably abysmal. However, I have to say, it does look quite intriguing. I’ve never been a huge fan of the exorcism-themed films as I’ve always felt they all tend to rehash the same thing over and over, but from the looks of the trailer below it’ll most likely have me turning on all the lights in the house while watching it. I also never say no to a good horror film and with a few exciting ones due for release in 2013 it might be time to stock up on some underwear again!

The first film followed disillusioned priest Cotton Marcus as he documents the exorcism activities of his ministry to expose them as frauds. After receiving a letter from a terrified farmer who needs his help for to exorcise his daughter, he decides to assist but also to film the entire thing with predictably terrifying results. By the end of the first film, the fate of Cotton Marcus was unknown.

The second film starts where the first film left off, with Nell being found in the forest after having given birth to a demon baby. She is taken to a halfway house but it seems she isn’t out of the woods just yet (see what I did there?) – the demon that possessed her is looking for her again, but it seems its motives might be different this time…

Take a look at the trailer!

Well, hell. What I said before about needing to stock up on underwear? I might not have been far off the mark. I do like the way they seem to encorporate some of the footage from the first film, with other people finding out what Nell had been through. All I know is, the only place that halfway house is half way to is hell.

What do you guys think? Yay, or nay?
