What, another Robin Hood film? C’mon man, I’ve seen enough peasant villages being put to the torch in the beginning of these films to last me a lifetime! Nope, it’s not that kind of Robon Hood film that is on the horizon. Instead, we’ve got a biopic coming up about arguably the most iconic man to ever slip a pair of tights on and stick and feather in his cap, Errol Flynn.
Kevin Kline is looking to travel back in time to the golden age of film production as the then-popular swashbuckling actor, and he’s bringing a little romance on the side with him, as Dakota Fanning has just landed the female lead in The Last of Robin Hood.
Set in the final years of the Hollywood star before he got betrayed by chest pains and died of a heart attack at the age of 50, The Last of Robin Hood will see Kline in those few months that he had left when he began to start dating teen actress Beverly Aadland. While he was actually kind of married, that is.
Thanks to the fact that she was dating the mega-popular actor at the time, Aadland secured a role in the 1959 film Cuban Rebel Girls. A film which few remember. Still, it sounds like a capable cast for the flick, and will most likely lead to quite a few people rubbing their eyes and saying “Wait, that’s Dakota Fanning?”.
The Last of Robin Hood has a script from Quniceanera co-directors Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland, who want to direct as well. Susan Sarandon is also involved as Beverly’s overbearing mom Florence Aadland, who then went on to tabloid the hell out of the affair with a tell-all book, The Big Love.
