James Wan knows how to scare people. He knows how to scare people real good. The soiled seats in cinemas where Insidious played is evidence to that. And now Wan is back with his next bit of no-frills, micro budget horror thrills with The Conjuring. And judging by this trailer, it’s also going to scare the clap, I mean crap out of you.
Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. “The Conjuring” tells the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga), world renowned paranormal investigators, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives.
Er…. Could one of you be a dear, and pass me a new pair of shorts? The brown pair, if you please. Thanks.
Much like Wan did previously, it seems like he’ll be using the same histrionics-free, slow burn approach of simply ratcheting up tension to unbearable levels before prompting you to violently void your bowels. And somehow, we’ll give him money for the experience. Lots of money, if Insidious is any indication. That film ended up raking in $97 million off a budget of just $1.5 million. That’s some (pun intended) scary profit.

Damn nice! I became a fan of Wan’s work with Insidious – he’s got the makings of being a significant force in ghost horrors. Goodness knows we’ve needed a renaissance in the genre for a while.
