MAN OF STEEL trailers feature "just the tip"

Okay, if you are thinking that I’m writing this article just so that I can make Archer jokes, then you would be absolutely correct.  However, contrary to popular believe, I won’t stoop to Archer-levels of humor just yet since we have some serious business to discuss regarding The Man of Steel.

With “serious business”, I mean the latest from David S. Goyer, the Man of Steel screenwriter. Goyer has quite  an impressive resume (barring a few stinkers), which include all three of Nolan’s Batman films, a few Blade films, Dark City, Jumper…so yes, the man does know what he is doing. So, we are definitely dealing with a man that knows and loves his comic books, especially being a comic book author as well. He spoke with Total Film recently regarding the Man of Steel trailer and it is definitely very interesting, especially to those of you who, like me, can’t wait for it.

Here’s a bit of what he had to say:

“There’s so much of the movie that people don’t know, that hasn’t been touched upon. The trailer’s just the tiniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg.” …

“Relatable and realistic doesn’t necessarily mean dark. I think it would be inappropriate for us to approach a Superman film as if we were doing The Dark Knight” … “ The Batman films are a lot more nihilistic; Superman has always been a story about hope.”

While I know he has to sell his own film, all of the above sounds very promising. We are going into Man of Steel not quite knowing what to expect, allowing the filmmakers to tell their story as they intend, which definitely adds to a more fulfilling cinema experience. This is a trend that J.J. Abrams has also started to follow and I have to say, I’m all for it.

The fact that they can also make a clear separation between the feel of Nolan’s Batman trilogy and The Man of Steel is also fantastic, and something which us film geeks have been speculating about for a while – with Nolan’s involvement, how will his realistic take on Batman influence a film about a alien that can shoot lasers out of his eyes and pick up a mountain?

All I know is, we have three months to go before we are going to be able to witness The Man of Steel on our screens and I really can’t wait. For now though, we’ll have to be happy with just the tip:
