Sam Mendes might use his licence to thrill…again

Alright, I know not everyone was fond of the last installment of the Bond franchise, Skyfall, but then again…nobody is perfect, and we here at The Movies forgive you. Why so forgiving, you ask? Well, it might just be because we are so overjoyed at the news that Mendes might return to the helm another 007 film – it won’t be the next one, however.

Barbara “Queen Bond” Broccoli and Sam Mendes had quite a bit to say regarding Mendes potentially returning to the franchise and I have to admit, I do appreciate their approach. While not being completely affirmative or dismissive, Barbara Broccoli has confirmed that she would want Mendes back for a future installment and he had the following to say, as per Comingsoon:

“Bond movies, they need someone working on it now…I’m doing my theatre projects and then I’ll work out… I’ve definitely left the door open though… I’ve never really repeated myself, done the same type of movie one after the other, so just give me a chance to think about what I actually want to say.”

That, ladies and gentlemen, is what makes a good filmmaker. I feel like I can put my trust in a director that always has a story to tell and, since he managed to continue and even improve on what Martin Campbell started with Casino Royale, I have a suspicion that we can look forward to many more great installments…and even future, different Bonds.

The only thing that makes me nervous is the Bond curse…which is very similar to the Star Trek curse, which will hopefully be broken by Star Trek Into Darkness. Every second film is a stinker.

The evidence? Goldeneye… Tomorrow Never Dies. The World Is Not Enough…Die Another Day. Casino Royale… yeah, you know the rest.

So, my question would be: Who would you like to see helm the next Bond film? I have a suspicion that they can have their pick of directors. Who would be your favourite, and why?
