Sylvester Stallone confirms Mickey Rourke for THE EXPENDABLES 3, teases Steven Seagal and "raiding The Raid"

While Sylvester Stallone’s latest musclebound movie may have knocked me out cold for all the wrong reasons, I am greatly looking forward to the third entry in his Expendables franchise.

The second film was easily the most fun – that didn’t involve a green rage giant ragdolling a god – that I had in the cinema in 2012, and I can’t wait see what over the top ideas Stallone and friends come up with next. Ideas that may just be taken from another action movie standout for 2012, and friends that are both familiar and really intriguing.

Despite being all old school, Stallone has really taken to Twitter and recently let out a string of tweets about the action packed threequel, first confirming that Mickey Rourke’s Tool (that’s his character’s name, not a sexual euphemism) will be back.

“Mighty Mickey is back…………”

It’s unknown whether his role will expanded from his previous appearance in the first film where he was essentially just asked to pretend to tattoo somebody, ride a bike, talk tough and look ugly. All things that Mickey Rourke are well versed in. Along with the news of Rourke’s return though, Stallone then went on to sort of confirm the recent additions of both Jackie Chan and Wesley Snipes to the cast.

“What’s the plan? Ask Jackie Chan….”

“Talked to WESLEY today … He can not WAIT to fight to the top again !!!!!!! Over…”

And then not only did Stallone start to get his brag on about how the next film could be better than The Raid: Redemption, the Indonesian actioner that is arguably (and I would do the arguing) the best action movie of the last decade, but also how he may be thinking of poaching from the action spectacular.

“Thinking about Raiding THE RAID….think about it…”

— Sylvester Stallone (@TheSlyStallone) May 16, 2013

“We believe we can do better than the RAID, which was an excellent film… Raising the bar…”

Could that mean that Stallone and director Patrick Hughes are just being inspired by the hit film, or could it be that they have star Iko Uwais in their casting crosshairs? If the latter, I might promptly misplace my feces.

ikouwais

With Jet Li seemingly departing the franchise and Donnie Yen turning down an offer, the Expendables crew appears to have a crazy-monkey kung-fu practitioner shaped hole in it, and Uwais would definitely slot right in. With an as yet undefined part in Keanu Reeves’ upcoming Man of Tai Chi, Uwais is on the verge of becoming a major name in the Western action movie scene, and The Expendables 3 would be just the right vehicle to introduce his badassery to more mainstream audiences.

And speaking of asses, last night Stallone then teased what appears to be the inclusion of veteran action man and current fat man Steven Seagal into the cast as well. Well either him or Steven Spielberg (though my money’s on the former).

“Just talked to STEVEN S. in Moscow …Sounds great and says he wants to be in EX3, if the part fits….”

Newsflash to Mr Seagal: Except for teaching UFC fighters the wonders of the front kick to the face, you haven’t really done anything worthwhile in years. Trust me, the part fits.

Despite the joke that he has become in the last decade of his career, I grew up with Steven Seagal movies. They taught me as young boy, how to break people’s arms and also how eject drugs from your veins using nothing but your brain. So that nostalgic side of me would love it if Seagal would actually get involved in this, especially if he were to take the villain role like he did in Machete.

Stallone is currently busy writing the script for The Expendables 3, which he previously claimed would be funnier than it’s predecessor (a bold claim since I laughed my not inconsiderate behind off for Expendables 2). There’s no release date scheduled yet.
