“Same shit, different day”. Never before has that old adage been more apt than in the life of arguably the world’s favourite whisper-shouting counter terrorist agent, Jack Bauer. Kiefer Sutherland’s legendary TV character has spent eight days (well, in 24 time) saving the United States from everything from nuclear bombs to presidential assassinations to the world’s most unluckiest teenage daughter.

Now after a four year hiatus from our screens Jack is back with 24: Live Another Day and he doesn’t have the home ground advantage anymore as the action moves to London. So sorry Ol’ Blighty, but Jack has to prevent a world war, which means a lot of your buildings and citizens are about to kick the bucket.

“Twentieth Century Fox Television, Imagine Television and FOX are sending the production of 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY across the Atlantic to London for a thrilling international adventure, as the new tent-pole event series restarts the clock on the groundbreaking and Emmy Award-winning drama franchise starring Kiefer Sutherland. As previously announced, 24: LIVE ANOTHER DAY will make its historic debut in the summer of 2014 on FOX.

Four years ago, we left Jack a fugitive from justice and we’re going to pick him up four years later in London. Jack is soon back on the run and it takes us into the streets of London and in places that break new ground for the show. We’ve shot in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and Cape Town — but now we’re in London and Jack’s loose on the streets of Europe, hunted by and hunting bad guys.”

I am a gigantic 24 fan and my wife and I are actually currently rewatching the entire series on Netflix, putting me in full on Jack Bauer mode at the moment (no, that doesn’t mean I go around shooting ladies in the leg), so this new series could definitely not have come at a better time.

Based on this trailer it looks like everybody is back to doing what they do best, with the only question being how the show will adapt to the new format. In the past, as you probably know, each of the show’s 24 episodes would correspond to an hour of of real-time action. However, the new event-series format will see this latest season only boasting 12 episodes, where the season will still cover a 24-hour period and each episode will still correspond to an hour, but there will be jumps forward in time in between certain episodes. A lot of 24‘s appeal was the non-stop barrage of cliffhanger endings for each episode, so we’ll have to wait and see how this new format affects this.

Luckily we won’t have to wait too long as 24: Live Another Day will premiere on May 5, 2014 with a 2-hour premiere on FOX. Hopefully, we’ll see it on our local screens soon thereafter.
