Midweek Mouth-off: Turning child's play to profit

midweek mouth off
With the mammoth critical and commercial success of The Lego Movie – hell, it’s Kervyn’s favourite film of 2014 to date – as well as recent (and upcoming) films inspired by the Transformers and GI Joe action figures, today we want to know what other toys you think would successfully make the leap to the big screen?

We’ve had movies based on theme park rides. We’ve had movies based on board games. Now we want to know what toys could actually form the basis of a highly entertaining high concept film franchise? Let your imagination run wild – and then present us with your pitch. Personally, my money’s on Hot Wheels, with its combination of crazy, colourful vehicles and crazier stunt work.

Uhm … that is a toy line based on a cartoon from the 80s. I feel old again.

Yes, but most of those 80’s cartoons were designed from the ground up as nothing more than ways to sell toys.

They need their own movie. Don’t deserve to be lumped together with a retarded cowboy & a purple space dildo.

It’s actually rather difficult as most kids these days play with movie franchise toys and video games. Not to mention that Batman is brought to life far more vividly in video games than what we had access to back then. Toys are not what they used to be like when I was playing with my He-Man mandolls.

Action figure is not PC and could be construed as downright derogatory! We are not all meant to be action figures, ask Toadie, Cringer or Darryn.

This is where I realised the only toy I had as a kid was Lego… Well, that and me. But I don’t see anyone making a movie of me playing with myself. At least not one where I get royalties…
