My friends and I have occasionally joked about how if war should break out here, and we got drafted, we would have some advantage due to our years of playing war-based video games and watching war movies. But the truth is, none of these digital facsimiles could ever sufficiently prepare us for the real thing, even if they happen to be drawing from the well of real events. That’s where The Hornet’s Nest comes in.

Following on the heels of recent popular “authentic” Hollywood military productions like Act of Valor and Lone Survivor, this documentary feature film takes you inside the real war in Afghanistan like never before. And the first trailer has just dropped, giving us a glimpse of that world.

The Hornet’s Nest is a groundbreaking and immersive feature film, using unprecedented real footage to tell the story of an elite group of U.S. troops sent on a dangerous mission deep inside one of Afghanistan’s most hostile valleys. The film culminates with what was planned as a single day strike turning into nine intense days of harrowing combat against an invisible, hostile enemy in the country’s complex terrain where no foreign troops have ever dared to go before. Two embedded journalists, a father and son, bravely followed the troops through the fiercest and most blood-soaked battlegrounds of the conflict. What resulted is an intensely raw feature film experience that will give audiences a deeply emotional and authentic view of the heroism at the center of this gripping story.

David Salzberg and Christian Tureaud directs The Hornet’s Nest, which “stars” Peabody and Emmy Award-winning conflict Journalist Mike Boettcher, and his son, Carlos, who, armed with just four cameras, spent two years covering the American troop surge in Afghanistan.

The Hornet’s Nest will be released in US theatres on May 23, 3014. No word yet on an international release date.

  1. Imma let you finish, but last nights AoS episode was badass. This is what I’ve been waiting for.

Coulson was an angry badass, May was a human badass, Ward was a badass dick (calling SET UP! now), Fitz was a brave badass, Simmons was adorably dithering like usual, and Skye, well.. she didn’t really have much to do.

While I agree 100% with all of this, I have zero idea what this has to do with this trailer 😀

I rarely watch movies like this – they usually turn out propaganda-ish.
