As part of Marvel’s on-going mission to supply the world with much needed AWESOME (and in the process swim in more cash than Scrooge McDuck) the studio has cast arguably the best form of the Doctor from Doctor Who, David Tennant. The British actor is set to play The Purple Man (Zebediah Killgrave) in mini-series A.K.A. Jessica Jones, scheduled for release on Netflix later this year. If you haven’t heard of A.K.A Jessica Jones (who will be played by Krysten Ritter, Breaking Bad) here is a brief description of the 13-part show:

“After a tragic ending to her short-lived super hero stint, Jessica Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City. An enigmatic figure from Jessica’s past, Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”

Tennant, who recently won the Special Recognition Award at the National Television Awards in Britain, plays a figure from Jones’ past, one that is back to surely cause trouble. His special power is being able to control people through the use of pheromones, but only if they are within a certain distance. He also has super healing powers much like the Flash. Executive Producer of the show Melissa Rosenberg said of Tennant:

“He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.”

And I have to agree with her. Tennant showed off some seriously deep sides to his Tenth Doctor and is also doing a sterling job in BBC crime drama Broadchurch.

A.K.A. Jessica Jones is to be the second of Marvel’s planned Netflix series after Daredevil with Charlie Cox playing the Man With No Fear. A.K.A will introduce Mike Coulter’s Luke Cage – Jessica Jones’ superpowered husband – who will then go on to have his own series. A fourth series centering around the kung fu fighting Iron Fist will then air, before all four series will crossover for a Defenders mini-series.
