Here's why Ant-Man won't be seen in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

May marks the end of Phase 2 for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A three year journey that saw Iron Man face demons from his past, Thor taking a trip to the Dark World, the introduction of the Awesome Mix and Captain America facing a former ally turned rogue-assassin-with-a-cybernetic-arm-and-a-helpful-case-of-movie-amnesia with all the various plot threads coming together in the Avengers sequel. A few months later, Phase 3 will kick off with Ant-Man leading the charge. Avengers: Age Of Ultron could have been the perfect bridge to help give that character a little extra heat. But that ain’t happening. And you can blame redundancies in the MCU for that.

Speaking to Empire, Avengers 2 director Joss Whedon explained that it just wasn’t necessary to have either Ant-Man (Scott Lang/ Hank Pym) in the sequel, as all the numerous science Mary Sue roles had already been filled in by the existing cast:

Of all the heat I’ve ever taken, not having Hank Pym was one of the bigger things. But the fact of the matter was, Edgar had him first and by virtue of what Edgar was doing, there was no way for me to use him in this. I also thought it was a bridge too far. Ultron needs to be the brainchild of the Avengers, and in the world of the Avengers and the MCU, Tony Stark is that guy. Banner has elements of that guy – we don’t really think of him as being as irresponsible as Tony Stark, but the motherfucker tested gamma radiation on himself, with really terrible, way-worse-than-Tony-Stark results.

It didn’t make sense to introduce a third scientist, a third sciencetician, to do that. It was hard for me, because I grew up on the comics, to dump that, but at the end of the day, it’s a more interesting relationship between Tony and Ultron if Tony was once like, ‘You know what would be a really great idea?’ They’re doing what they always do – which is jump in headfirst, and then go, ‘Sorry, world!’ But you have to make it their responsibility without just making it their fault.

Makes sense. With Marvel movies organised years in advance, it’d be tricky to shoehorn a character like that in. And really, I’m keen to see Ant-Man stand on its own six feet when it releases in July.

Darryn, Marvel has Stated that Ant-Man ENDS phase 2, it doesn’t Start Phase 3. That honour goes to Civil War. http://screenrant.com/ant-man-movie-phase-2-marvel-cinematic-universe/

never liked ant man, can do without him.
and while ultron is ant mans brain child, tony stark is as responsible for his creation as ant man is.
the only difference is when it gets down to fighting, ant man generally hides in his hole while iron man is left to blow shit up.
so in terms of a movie role, ant man, who isnt an avenger, would be as useless as maya hansen was in iron man 3.
