Firstly, no, not this Flash. Or that one. Secondly, the teaming up of the Oscar-winning director of Silence of the Lambs with the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno with Meryl Streep who wins ALL DA OSCARZ! is certainly one that is sure to grab some attention. Especially since Ricki and the Flash will not only see Streep using that incredible singing voice she wowed us with in Mamma Mia!, but will also be rocking out on a guitar. Yes, she’s gone from just shredding the dreams of whomever is competing with her for Oscars every year, to shredding on the axe.

Channeling her inner Stevie Nicks in this first trailer, Streep seems to be on top form here, which as the last few years and her ever expanding awards cabinet shows, is her default mode. Screenwriter Diablo Cody has been a bit hit-and-miss in her career, and some of her more cliched foibles appear to maybe be rearing their heads here again, but if director Jonathan Demme can show the same magic he had earlier in his career, then this could be a solid dramedy.

Three-time Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep goes electric and takes on a whole new gig – a hard-rocking singer/guitarist – for Oscar®-winning director Jonathan Demme and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody in the uplifting comedy “Ricki and the Flash.” In a film loaded with music and live performance, Streep stars as Ricki, a guitar heroine who gave up everything for her dream of rock-and-roll stardom, but is now returning home to make things right with her family. Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer, who plays her fictional daughter; Rick Springfield, who takes on the role of a Flash member in love with Ricki; and Kevin Kline, who portrays Ricki’s long-suffering ex-husband.

Ricki and the Flash also stars Kevin Kline, Sebastian Stan, Mamie Gummer, Audra McDonald and Rick Springfield. It will be rocking out on August 7, 2015.
